Tramadol

Hi I've just started taking tramadol for back and nerve pain after hip replacement Dec 2016. Just wondering if anyone else is taking tramadol and if you can take paracetamol with it. Forgot to ask the chemist today.

    Hi Sarah,

Yes you can take paracetamol along with tramadol. Just be careful how long you take tramadol, as they are very addictive and some people have a hard time when coming of them. Tapper yourself of them when finished with them as some people can get really bad withdrawels. I never but a lot of people do.

Some people get a lot of pain releif from them but others don't. They did not help me much. I am on stronger pain meds now anyway as l have had most of my joints replaced on bottom half so l take oxycodone 10mg along with co-codamol and have for over 2 years. Its all that helps me. I know if l was ever to stop l would need to be tappered of both of them as well. But l tried tramadol with co codamol for a while. It hopefully will help you.

Sarah I had amitryptaline for nerve pain a few months after my thr. Short course cured nerve pain. I was also prescribed gabapentin for nerve pain in my foot after nerve removal this year. I am allergic to tramadol so cannot comment on that.

    Hi Sarah

I was on tramadol and paracetamol whilst in hospital at the beginning then they changed to codeine and paracetamol which I still took for a few weeks at home.  I then continued with regular paracetamol.

It's best to wean yourself off them if you can.

Best wishes for your recovery I'm 8 months on now and can't believe I feel back to normal- there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Tramadol is just a muscle relaxer.  I've been prescribed that in the pasts to help me sleep.  If your pain is not being caused by tight muscles, it's unlikely that it will help with your pain.

Yes, you can take Paracetamol (Acetaminophen or brand name Tylenol) with Tramadol.  Check with you doctor for long term use though.

    Best wishes!

I had a hard time with tramadol, I started getting addicted to them, every time I was due to take the next pill, I would crave it.  I was switched to Codeine after my revision which seemed OK.
