Tramadol addiction out of control

Posted , 20 users are following.

Please help me , I'm 44 live in the uk and I've been addicted to Tramadol for about 4 years I take about 20 50mg per day ! To say that's a lot is an understatement, if I run out I lie to different doctors and ask other users for some if there's , it's horrendous, I've not had any for 3 days and I'm in hell , I can't sleep , twitching , head aches , my muscles are in spasm , I'm literally sat here sobbing out of tiredness and desperation and needing the pills , I don't know what to do I'm in 2 minds to go to the docs and get them or tell the truth , I'm petrified the doctor won't give me any thing if I tell the truth , please help

Get some nytol to help you sleep and take both paracetamol and ibuprofen for the pain.

Tell your doctor the truth. The gp will probably refer you to an addiction clinic. I would expect you will keep getting prescriptions. It's my understanding that addiction is delta with consentialy with the patient and forcing a patient to do cold turkey would not be ethical.

20 a day is very high and probably to much to stop alone. Whatever happens in the next few days please seek help. There are help lines you can call to get advice and advice. 3 days clean is good and I think you have done so well to manage this long. Usually after day 3 the body starts to recover and you should start feeling gradually better. Stay safe and please seek help. Phone a help line if you don't want to talk to your gp but please use this as your first step on a journey to recovery. Good luck.

There's no easy way out of this, but I can tell you this: Quitting won't get any easier than it is right now.

If  you can get the proper comprenhensive medical support for your symptoms, then I urge you to "bite the bullet" and get into that treatment. But you'll need a doctor who understands the dual nature of tramadol, and who isn't afraid to use "dangerous" drugs like benzodiazepines and/or opiates to wean you off of it. That won't make it easy, but it will make it easier

You need help from your GP now they will give you full support and understanding it's good you have come on here and faced your your addiction it will take time and patience on your part but going to a clinic won't be easy.

Take care Lisa and I wish you the best

Come back here and tell is your progress

If you are determined not to seek medical help, do NOT just stop, you are only going to make yourself ill.  Stop 1 half tab at a time until you stop feeling the difference.  Then cut back by another half.  Keep doing this, if you can do 1 tab at a time do so. But don't punish yourself.  It is long winded, but it works.  Drink lots and lots of water to flush out the toxins.  Tony15730 suggests Nytol and paracetamol.  Do so.

You are in a bad place right now, but you are not alone.  It is easy to get stuck in a loop, and harder to get out, but you sound as if you are a determined person.  You can do it!  You have the support of people on this forum.  Stay strong !!

    1. If you get more, start weening off them, keep cutting dosage in by 1/3 every week or 2

    2. Be smart, check in to a drug addiction center, don't let yourself get destroyed by this stuff. you can't cold turkey this stuff as you already know. As painful as it seems, if you don't go get help, the outcome may may be worse than the detox process.

Lisa, At this point, I would tell a trusted adult and go to an emergency room. They can help you the best in the quickest , safest way. It's okay, we here have all been there. But someone needs to know the truth. You can't go on like this without medical help. May God bless you and keep us posted.

Ohh now ive heard thats very painful indeed as opposed to the neuropathic pain that I have. Gabapentin did not help but when I got off the trams I was put on amitryptaline (excuse the spelling) it helps a little pretty much hit and miss...keep your chin up pain is a pain and you know you are not alone...jx

Thanks I was amitriptyline before for a year only worked at bed time during the day it was awful pain the pain specialist talked about slow release tramadol for me so maybe that's next I use cream for me feet and works really well x

Thanks the support here is great and means a lot

I often wondered why slow release tramadol was never suggested to me as my habit increased it would have saved a lot of heartache. My pain increases when I go to bed so I take diazepam too. Do u mind if I ask how much amitriptyline you were on because I take one 10mg at bedtime. I suppose I now have to take into account the fentanyl that I am on..whats the name of the wonder cream if u dont mind sharing as my mum uses a cream on her knees I put some on my back and it was great for a short time..jx

I was taking 30-40 mg per night started at the low dose of 10 mg then after 2 weeks the dose went up

The cream is called capsaicin cream I use it 3 times a day and it's really effective.

Yes seems strange that you was not offered slow release tramadol when you was taking a high dose the doctor told me it lasts 12 hours
