trans male w surgical menopause

hello!

I'm a 19 heard old trans man who's recently had a full hysterectomy by laparotomy. I am finally resting from the bothers of a c-section but now I've started to actually feel the effects of menopause and I am at complete loss.

The hot flashes are horrible. I get them maybe 20 times a day and there's no way to calm them down. they are accompanied by sharp chest pain and fast breathing, and I cannot for the life of me find anything about that. It feels like I'm having an anxiety episode, twenty times a day. I wasn't really warned about this at all and I don't know what else I'm missing, or what's to come. I also suffer from a major depressive disorder, and I had been moderately good until now; I've had a really bad mood fall these last weeks. It's making it hard to cope.

I've read that surgical menopause lasts until its normal age of decline, is that true? is there anything I can do to calm these symptoms? I'm barely managing and I have so little information, I'd love some experiences from other people.

Thank you and please have a good day!

Hi etgar. A good friend of mine is a trans man who has had a full hysterectomy and he says it was hell! If you re taking hormones at the same time your body is probably adjusting to the violent interruption of the normal female hormone cycles. Estrogen and progesterone are at their peak at 19, so messing around with them wrecks havoc in your body. My friend also went through menopause after his hysterectomy with very intense symptoms . I believe it stabilizes as your body adjusts to the changes. Ten years after his transition friend is fine for the most part. Doctors don t usually inform you about all the symptoms of the transition, not sure why... I believe there are dedicated forums for for the trans community. Look them up and ask there. Your specifics are very unique because hysterectomy doubled with androgens has a whole different set of symptoms. Most women here are not familiar with your situation. I hope you find your answers, feel better and enjoy the new you to the fullest.

this was extremely helpful, thank you so much! It's so relieving to know I'm not alone in this 😅 I'm not really active in any trans community online so I don't know where I should ask but I will look around!!! I am thinking about going back to my lgbt+ counseling group so I can get more insight on this too

    Hello etgar

Thanks for your post.... And patience - I was a bit taken aback by a few responses and I'm sorry for that. I've still got bits intact, but have had hormonal issues since about 17 and its tough. I agree that you're probably better off getting some advice from your doctor or specialist as it sounds like things have been more complex than most for you and I really hope you get the right support. It may be that it's early days and things may take a while to settle, your body has been forced into menopause and I'm sure it's a shock to your system. I've found the following helpful: kalms, rescue remedy, menopace, sage, evening primrose, homeopathy and hypnotherapy...... not all at the same time 😊 its sometimes really challenging to deal with the symptoms and it seems to make most of us anxious. I wish I had more advice, but I wish you lots of luck with recovery. Keep your chin up xx
