Transmission facts/ rates or stories! Genital herpes type 1

Hi all,

A little bit about me. So I have genital herpes type 1. I caught it from a guy who gave me oral. I've only ever had one initial outbreak and nothing else since the first which was in January 2016.

I am currently dating a guy who does not carry the herpes virus.

There really isn't a lot of information on ghsv1 transmission rates online or studies as it's said so many people carry the type 1 virus so would be really hard to do a study on transmission rates etc.

I would like to hear from anyone who has the same type and location as me; genital herpes type 1 and if you have transmitted it genital or orally to your partner or even if you have any stories or advice would be amazing

I do not take daily meds, me and my partner rarely use condoms as we much prefer the sex without, as I haven't had any other outbreaks apart from my first do you think the risk is still high for my partner to catch the virus taking all the above into consideration?

Hope to hear back from you.

It’s either herpes 1 or genital herpes 2 .. there’s no such thing as genital herpes 1. Either you have it herpes 1 that’s oral which most people have  or genital herpes 2 this in your genital

I'm afraid you are wrong, I think you may need to do a bit more research before you comment on other people's discussions giving wrong information.

For your information, you can aquire herpes type 1 on your gentials from oral sex, so if someone has herpes type 1 orally (on the mouth) and they give someone oral sex you can then transmit herpes from one location to another, so from the mouth  to the gentials. Which is how I caught the virus. Someone who suffers from cold sores but didn't have any visible at the time gave me oral sex and transmitted type 1 to me genitally.

You are right in saying herpes type one prefers the oral location and herpes type 2 prefers the groin area but you can still aquire each type in the opposite locations.

So my question at the start of my discussion was can my partner who doesn't have the virus catch my herpes type 1 which is genital on he's mouth from giving me oral or on he's gentials through sex.

Hope to hear back from anyone who has any similar experiences or stories.

Most commonly, herpes type 1 causes sores around the mouth and lips (sometimes called fever blisters or cold sores). HSV-1 can cause genital herpes, but most cases of genital herpes are caused by herpes type 2. In HSV-2, the infected person may have sores around the genitals or rectum.

Yes what you have said is correct. But hsv1 genital is very common now as it is passed on through oral sex. So it's becoming more and more common for genital type 1 herpes.

Genital Herpes type 1 also has less outbreaks, I had my first outbreak January 2016 and haven't had another one since, but also apparently genital herpes type 1 has worse initials outbreaks.

Because genital herpes type 1 isn't as common as genital herpes type 2 there is less information online which is why I started this chat hoping to hear from anybody else in a similar situation.

      Hi,

I’m not sure if this is going to be much help to be honest but I was also diagnosed with HSV-1 in the gentials just over a month ago. I was unaware that my partner had it but I caught it from normal intercourse as he did not give me oral. I however did give him oral so also developed my first ever cold sore, I’m assuming he had HSV-1 in the genitals and it was transmitted to both areas on me. Like you said though, research shows that the outbreaks are much less frequent and I’m assuming transmissions to the genitals is less common due to it preferring the mouth area but more information on this would be great!

Hope you find it from someone who actually knows what they are talking about lol.

Thank you for your input, really appreciate it. That's really interesting actually that you caught genital herpes type 1 from genital to genital contact as I've not heard that much at all, it's normally always from oral sex. My biggest fear is passing it to my partner through normal sex or if he were to give me oral. Anyway I hope you are doing ok and you haven't suffered too much as I know how painful and awful the first outbreak is!!

Thanks again for some actual information on your experience, some people haven't got a clue what they are talking about and definitely need to do more research! Take care
