Transmission Likelihood - Thoughts?

Hi folks,

I've already gotten a positive swab result for HSV2 (swabbed and antivirals given on November 8, lesions likely formed November 4-6) Thankfully, they were more or less totally healed by November 11.

Anyway, I also just had blood taken on November 20 for IgM and IgG and have a follow-up appointment with my doctor for December 19.

My question is this... what is the likelihood this is something I've had for a long time? I was previously in a 2-year long relationship (June 2017 - 2019), and prior to that hadn't had sex since September 2016. I have since started seeing a new partner and we had been having unprotected sex regularly since October 2019. He informed me that, about a year ago, his previous partner had cheated on him numerous times toward the end of their relationship. I know I will have more information soon, but what do we think the likelihood is that he is an asymptomatic carrier?

It sounds strange, but I've never wanted someone to have given me HSV so badly, lol!

(Note: he is aware of my diagnosis, responded in the kindest/best way I could have imagined, and we are currently abstaining until we know more)

only way is for him to get tested and to wait on your results. If it's negative and he's been the only partner then he's most likely the source. If your blood results come back positive then he may stoll be the source given that you guys been together that long and this is your first noticeable out break. mean while ask him to get an off type specific test. also kno that taking antivirals will mess with the igG test.

I did give him the information on what tests to ask for. Not sure if he is going to wait until mine come back.

I wasn't on antivirals at the time of the test, if that makes a difference. I finished them on November 15 and was tested on November 20.

that shouldn't make a difference no I'd just wait on your results and either way have him test as well

i think you have to be off anti virals for awhile to get accurate testing. but your swab came back positive so that is accurate. as far ad knowing who and when .... you may never know it can be dormant for sometime... some people take it the grave without ever knowing because they never had an outbreak. either way he needs to be tested and if you still talk to your previous partner i would advise them as well.

I will not be speaking to my ex, but if the labs come back and suggest it isn't a very new infection, the health authority here will "confidentially" phone them and give them some vague "you should go get testsd" information.

I hope my new partner will go for some testing sooner rather than later, just so we can have some additional peace of mind.

if i am not mistaken i think there is a short window to test the IGM for recent exposure.

      Good to know.

I'm hoping he just goes for the IgG testing himself as well.

It just feels unlikely in my mind (and the mind of my friend who is a doctor on the other side of the country) that it would be dormant for so long and then basically show up within a month of sleeping with someone new.

Not upset. Not looking to place blame. Just trying to calm the concern in my brain over what this means for our intimacy.
