Transmission of HSV1

I'm currently having my first outbreak of genital HSV1. I got it from my partner's oral cold sores' HSV1. He has never had any genital herpes symptoms. Since we both have HSV1, what risks do we run with sexual activity?? Can I even give him HSV1 on his genitals if he already has it on his mouth? Do we need to use condoms? Do I need to do suppressive therapy? Any info would be helpful thanks

To my understanding, he's probably built up enough of an immunity from having it orally that his risk of contracting it below the belt is minimal. I have GHSV-1, my girlfriend does not even carry the virus. In the year and change that we have been dating, she had not caught it.

do you use condoms ? are you on suppressive theropy?

if he has hsv1 on his mouth he cannot contract it on his genitals. suppressive therapy would only curve the amount of outbreaks you have but hsv1 on genitals usually doesnt have many reoccurring outbreaks.

Thank you all! @anonymous18076 , my outbreak started when I was on my period so the first issue I had was pain when taking tampons out (11/6). I had flu-like symptoms (body aches, weakness, fatigue) the first and second days when I had minimal pain. It then developed into pain throughout the day (11/8). Three days after the initial pain, I examined my labia to find a large amount of small white circular sores (11/9). The next day they started spreading to my outer labia and vulva. The sores then became more "filled" and the affected area was extremely red. My labia became very swollen. It burned when I peed because of the ammonia in the pee running over raw tissue. I could barely handle peeing. This was the day I went to urgent care and started taking Valtrex (11/10). The sores were worse on the 11th and 12th but started getting better yesterday the 13th. It no longer burns to pee and it's mostly just red where the sores were. I still have sores on the outside. Very manageable now though, I'm not even taking Advil at all. I used Herstat ointment, not sure if it helped or not. You can try Azo urinary pain relief, vaseline, and squirting water for pee burning.

Your situation sounds very similar to mine..outbreak after starting period..same symptoms except he had gone down on me 2 days before his cold sore appeared..so he had no way of knowing he was shedding the virus. Also, I think my outbreak was not that severe compared to things I've read. I did also get a yeast infection from the abx I took unnecessarily when they preemptively started me on them fir a suspected UTI. I honestly think my vagina hates me at this point. My boyfriend felt horrible when he found out. I was feeling pretty devastated initially but now that things have cleared up I can see where life can go on. I did decide to take suppression therapy. the meds are cheap, no real side effects and I truly don't ever want another outbreak.

    hi:

my info is from personal experience

Lets say that you (woman) have HSV1 Genitally and your Boyfriend has HSV1 orally.

    1. Your boyfriend can 100% contract your hsv1 in his genitals.
    2. You as a woman can 100% contract HSV1 in your mouth.

    you may wonder, But how???

you probably though that it was impossible or very unlikely to contract a virus that you already have and the truth is that you are not contracting a new virus, you are not "re-infecting" your self with HSV1 again. the truth is that you would be "spreading" your current hsv1 from your genitals to your mouth and your boyfriend would be spreaking his oral HSV1 to his genitals using you. It is very LIKELY!

I contracted genital HSV1 from a guy that has genital HSV1, it was (genital to genital) in addition 2 years later I contracted HSV1 orally. I have a pretty good immune system and the whole 9. Everyone told me it was impossible and guess what, it happened.
