Transmission question??

Posted , 4 users are following.

My current girlfriend and I both have same types. We both have oral hsv1 and genital hsv2. We have had both for several years with no outbreaks in years. Here is my question. What are risks of oral sex? We want to perform oral sex on each other but don't want to get hsv2 on the mouth. I have read that it's very rare to get hsv2 transmitted to mouth. One reason is that 2 does not like mouth and secondly since body already has antibodies to both strains , that transmission to mouth is rare to non existent. Can anyone help?

If you both definitely have both viruses, then the risk is negligible for the reasons you mention. Still a good idea to avoid direct contact with an outbreak in uninfected areas as an added precaution, but that's about it.

Lol, I guess you didn't like my reply! What you said in your original post is correct: you should both be immune orally and HSV2 tends to prefer the genitals a lot more. If you have both had it for years and rarely have outbreaks now, then you may both be shedding less as well. So, go ahead and have oral sex, but if either of you has a genital outbreak, obviously refrain from oral contact as a precaution.

Hello, HSV-2 here. Totally agree with FelisCatus on this! Once the virus enters your body it stays in the infected area. Strange things happen so like FelisCatus said, refrain from contact during breakouts. You both should be fine. Think it's great you two found one another and are there for any & all types of support.
