Trapeziectomy 3 months ago now very swollen and nerve pain in hand

I had a trapeziectomy three months ago and been riding my horse daily. This was permitted by my consultant as healed very well. Up to this week only thing I haven't done is tighten a girth on saddle. Did yesterday and very swollen on back of hand and nerve pain. Is this normal?

    Have you been doing prescribed exercises to strengthen the hand?
