Trapped / Pinched / Compressed nerve

Hey, guys!
I am typing this in the hopes that someone can help me. For a few months now I have been experiencing some discomfort in both my arms (especially my forearms), my right shoulder, and occasionally my hands/fingers. Sometimes my hands feel tight when I open and close them, there are times when my right shoulder hurts despite no recolection of every injuring it. My forearms often get blunt kinda pain in them. I'm 27, no illnesses that I know of, although admittedly I am considerably overweight. I don't really know much about pinched nerves, but I am wondering if perhaps this could be what I have. The other thing is my arms/hands never hurt at the same time, it's like one clocks out to let the other take over... any ideas?

Best is to see a dr who may order an MRI of your spine. It is certainly possible, if not likely, you have an issue in your spine or muscles but diabetes can also cause similar symptoms. Generally increasing cardio exercise, eating well (reduce/eliminate wheat, sugar) and work on posture (lots of YouTube videos) is a good to start regardless of the diagnosis.

I'm hoping it's not Diabetes.

My physio thinks I have an irritated nerve in my cervical spine. pain sounds similar to yours. I'm going to have a CT scan on monday and hopefully if suitable I'll get a cortisone injection,Is yours a constant nagging pain that nothing will relieve? that's what a pinched nerve is like and nothing but big time drugs with bad side effects will give relief. Get a Dr to refer you for a CT or MRI then you'll know and can receive treatment

No, mine doesn't really hurt at all, Jane. Maybe I don't have a pinched nerve.

Well your Dr should have a plan. It could include a cortizone shot, some physical therapy for posture, worst cast surgery. If you aren't getting what you need from your Dr, get another opinion.

I'd see what your dr suggests if drugs is the first option I'd ask for other options or to be refered to the appropiate specialist or a good physiotherapist. If what he suggests doesn't sit well with you take the results to another dr for a second opinion. Over the years I've lost a bit of faith in Drs so weight it up. Good luck

I went to see a shoulder specialist and he said I had shoulder bursitis, game me a steroid shot and a prescription. The pain continued and I went to get a second opinion. They did some range of motion tests and xrays of my shoulder and neck. They think it is my neck that is causing all the pain-possibly cervical radiculopathy. I go for an MRI on Friday, that should give me more answers. Its been very frustrating but I am hopeful with the correct diagnosis I can start being treated and begin to feel better.

Hi Anna,
There are a few general things worth trying to help I find. Exercise, treadmill/fast walking/low impact, massage, heat/cold packs, physical therapy or YouTube posture/neck exercises, recently I tried TENS electric therapy (search amazon). Also, I've heard avoid sugar and wheat products.
I also may consider muscle relaxers, haven't tried yet.

Possibly, I also work at a computer. Definitely check the monitor height, keyboard/mouse location, chair are good. Don't try using a laptop without those peripherals. Your head needs to be relaxed and at eye level with the upper part of the monitor. Elbows at 90 degree.
There is no shortage of ergonomic things you can buy.
Probably the best advice is to just take frequent breaks, go on a short walks, maybe try a standing desk also.

I was on the same road but no surgeries yet. However, I did get an injection in my shoulder for bursitis that I do not have. Which now I have learned that shoulder bursistis pain doesnt go past the elbow.
