Travel abroad with Etanercept

Posted , 6 users are following.

I have just started with Etanercept injections and am flying on holiday shortly. I have been provided with a letter I can produce at the airport explaining why I am carrying a sealed syringe and am organised with a suitable bag to transport the meds but the letter states that it should not be put through an x ray machine and knowing how absolutely everything goes through at least one x ray I am a bit concerned, has anyone else flown with meds and is there a special label I should attach to the coolbag?

Any advice welcome thanks.

Hi Chris, I to am travelling long haul flights in October and wondering the same thing. I was told to carry it by hand and produce the letter of proof. It would be helpful to know the answer to your question. Hope someone can help you.

    Hi Chris,

I don't know the answer to your query, however I did google Etanercept injections airport and quite a bit came up.  I won't put the link here as it may not go through by the moderators, but you will find a few stories online.  Good luck x

I have travelled with 8 weeks supply of Etanercept and Methotrexate inj and didn't have any problems. Just carry it in your hand luggage in a separate bag which can be taken out easily while your hand luggage goes through scan.

Thanks Elspeth, did you have to explain to the security personnel at x ray that it should not go through the machine?

Hi Chriss65956. There was actually no problem. I gave them the letter and took the injectins out of my hand luggage which  then  went through xray without any question.
