Travel insurance

Hi everyone,

After years of camping and the like in the UK, we have decided to give our long suffering children a break and the chance of some guaranteed warmth and sunshine. 🌞🌞

When it comes to the travel insurance, do you have to declare your hip replacement? It'll be a good 6 months post op before we go on holiday. Will it still be relevant or once its done its done and no need to refer to it? Experience from when you have travelled please?

Thanks,

Dawn

    Hi Dawn,

you have to declare any pre exsiting medical condition past or present.

if you had to claim for anything different from your hip, and hadn't informed them the companies could void your claim. Hopefully this should not effect the cost of policy or maybe have to pay slightly higher. Worth peace of mind.

there are plenty of companies that specialise in pre exsiting conditions you can do on-line

P.s. Would wait till your past the 6months before you try for a quote.

I went on a cruise at 8 weeks. Insurance was an extra £10, the company I used said exactly how much extra it cost

Hi Dawn , I have travel insurance with my bank account. Told them about my replacement three months ago and it's now covered at no extra cost. Enjoy your holiday!

    From my experience, yes.

The small print requires me to declare any hospital procedures in the last 5 years.

I declared I had OA before, and now have had to declare no OA any more, but have a repacement hip.  They also asked if it has dislocated, am I taking any medication with it, and am I usong any walking aids.

I declare arthritis and also my new hip. Only adds £10 to insurance, best to be on the safe side. Tony

      Tony,

Yes, if the company can get out of paying up because you didn't declare your new hip, they will.

    hi dawn ,

good to see that you are making plans ...

I have been in the tourist industry for over 4 decades and my least favorite part was the insurance or dealing with insurance companies ( that, and rental cars ) - read the small print and ask questions - pre-existing conditions need to be declared but there are not too many details explained in case something does happen relating to a pre-existing condition - Graham is right, if they find a way not to pay you, they will - on the other hand, better safe than sorry because travel insurance covers other things as well ....

    big warm hug
