Travelling with anxiety / sertraline

Evening all,

Hope everyone has had a good week. I have found myself mainly house bound bound again this week. I've not been to work, after managing 4 half days last week I had a panic attack on the way to work in a taxi. Which frightened me as I wasnt expecting it after being on sertraline for a while. Since then I've been to afraid to take a taxi or bus, even though I've managed to get to and from work like that for the last years. Any advice anyone could provide me with?. Also off the back of this incident I've increased from 75mg to 100mg which started this morning.

Thanks all,

J

    Hi

I have been through exactly the same experience as your self when I went to a supermarket.Had the worst panic attack but took a few deep breathes and said to myself so yeh I am having a panic attack,I know what is happening it’s not fatal and I can get through this.It does take time to control these attacks but keep telling yourself it is not life threatening and it will pass you will get there believe me x

      Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for that, when I've had an attack before I always get home as quick as I can and it seems to stop almost instantly. Maybe I need to try and ride it out while I'm out and about in the world.

Definitely try and ride it out and deal with it, much easier said than done but try your best. Focus on breathing deep slow breaths in through your nose out through your mouth. Recognise it and have a plan in place to help you cope like breathing, counting. Down load headspace app they have a section for SOS when you need support this will make you feel like your not alone and will help you calm down. Take control of the situation best you can. I’ve used propanol in the last which is a beta blocker is slows your heart rate, if your trigger is travelling to work take one before these times, psychologically it may help and physically it will prevent your heart from racing, so unable to get to that panic state xxxx
