Treating the consequences of Scheuermanns as an adult

Hello, I'm a newbie to all this but am so relieved to find other sufferers on here. I was diagnosed earlier this year as having had Scheuermanns as a child. I've had progressively worse problems since my early twenties and am now 36. Had years of tests, misdiagnosis etc. anyway, am here now and trying to find best ways of coping. The problem is the different types if pain. I get terrible stiff pain in neck, shoulders and ribs and sharp tender pain at the bottom of my back and buttocks due to damaged and bulging discs. I also suffer from sciatica down to my ankles at times. I've had co-codamol and recently Amitriptyline to deal with the neuropathic pain. I've now come off that and been given Gabapentin to start this week. I also do Pilates. Currently am signed off work for the second time in as many months. My question to start I guess is does anyone have a method they have found helpful ie drug combinations, complimentary meds etc?... Thank you! (Sorry so wordy!)

You describe many of the problems I experience. I do get a lot of problems and muscle pain, but I do pilates, gentle stretching exercises and visit a Chiropractor every few months which helps quite a lot. As for medication Amitriptyline didn't do much for me, Gabapentin gave me migraines but Lyrica (pregabalin) does help if you have a high dosage, but makes you feel drunk :-)

The concept of neuropathic pain fits in with this. I was told you cannot say when or if it will go. Amitryptiline can be useful, although I found it made me feel dead, so I stopped. For me Bu-Trans patches are a big help; and use codeine when I have to. The patches provide a slow release over a week.
Certainly physiotherapy can help: both with mobility and to ease the pain.
Keep talking to your GP and specialist. They should (and in my experience do) all they can to help.
