Treatment for LP

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hi my LP started 7 years ago and has gradually got worse over the last 18 months under the top lip and on the cheeks. I have tried sterroid cream from the doctors which has eased it slightly but not kept it away and also oral sterroids which the doctor no longer will give to me because of the increased risk of osteopirosis. I go to the hospital twice a year for a check up but no joy despite biopsy and sterroid spray. My mouth is very painful and stings when i eat. has anyone any advice on how to ease or treat this? i would be very grateful, thank you.

    Hi Jill

Like you my lichen planus is mostly in the mouth and is very painful. I have written to the Times Style magazine as they have a section on natural remedies. As soon as I have a reply I'll post it on this site.

    Hang in there.

My wife visited a specialist in this area yesterday, who strongly advised using detrovate cream on all effected areas including the mouth. It is available on prescription.

After 3 years of experiencing mild oral problems and trying most available treatments ( I had spoken to my dentidt several times but no diagnosis was made or any advice given) a new hygenist finall asked me if I had scalde my mouth after a negative reply she asked about medocatio, when I replied blood pressure tablets she looked up the type and suggested that I consult my doctor. I have spent the last 2 years changing B P tablets to find something better, on no occasion did a doctor even look in my mouth. Yesterday I saw a new doctor who did and immediately suggested Lichen Plagnus. I am now told not to take the Tabs for a month check my blood pressure frequently and not to worry if it goes over the 200 level for a few weeks. Wow what kind of advicde is that, why not a swab and an appointment with a dental hospital.

Ask you doctor about using Clobetasol Propionate Cream .o5%. My vulva specialist has had me on this for 15 yrs. It does work. I insert 1/2 syringe twice weekly when I have an outbreak.

I have been diagnosed with Lichen Planus following a biopsy taken by a dermatologist. He also suspected blood pressure medication (in my case Bendroflumethiazide) or its interaction with other BP medications. I dont have any oral infections, just numerous red or brownish blotches and they are not itchy.
