Treatment info for Blepharitis

Posted , 121 users are following.

Has anyone found treatment info specifically for Blepharitis? I'm told the same old things like "scrub with baby shampoo" and I'm not getting any better.

I'm frustrated and hope that some doctor somewhere has studied this terrible condition - and just want to find the answers!

Thank you,

Oliver, London

After trying all remedies I have found a one that works. Take a cotton bud and dip into runny honey and put it on the base of the eyelashes morning and night to start with then after a few days just at night. Wash off in the morning. The honey has anti bacterial properties. I also take a probiotic supplement.. Keep going for a month. I saw improvement after a week and now it is at bay. I am only one month so far and I am so happy to be symptom free. Please try.

I was diagnosed with blephenitis years ago, tried antibiotics which didn't work, keeping them clean is important but I had thickening of my eyelids and my eyelashes were gradually disappearing but manuka honey has reversed all this and my eyes are clear and healthy.

Rub honey around eyelids with a cotton bud.

      It really works!

how many times a day did you put the honey on your eyelids and how long did it take for your eyes to get back to normal

Hi Oliver, in reply to Bletheritis treatment. In desperation I went to see my optitician who I found out also is a sufferer. This is the advice he gave me. Use Lacri-lube am and pm. Use Viscotears Liquid Gel eye drops for dry eyes and for flare ups Chloramphenycol which is an antibiotic. These creams are all available on prescription or over the counter. The most important advice he gave me is NEVER use soap or baby shampoo on your eyes it is an irritant. To clean your eyes use OCuSOFT Lid Scrub Foaming Eye Cleanser. Boots sell it £12ish you will be amazed at the instant relief. That's the only thing I ever clean my eyes with.i really hope this advice helps.  Good luck Gloria.

I also suffer from Blepharitis and have yet to find anything that really helps. Will try some of all the suggestions in this thread though. I really appreciate everyone who shares their solutions.

Hi, I'm new to this site but delighted to have found this thread as I felt like the only person with this awful condition. It's really getting me down. I've just come off fml drops and the problem has flared up again. This morning I have started us in wet ones but I'm not sure how to use them! On top of the flash, under, individually??? Also, will it affect the lash long term. Could it cause the lash to fall out? Any advice gratefully appreciated.

      Hi Rebecca

You do feel you are the only person dont you? It really pulled me down as well. Scroll back and read Lindas advice. I tried it after loads of other things and it worked but it has flared again {about 9 months later} so will start again but I going away for  days so it might wait until I get back. Its having the same affect on me as before.....making me feel really down

Hi Eileen, thanks for replying. I read that post just after I'd posted my query. Have tried the wet ones but find it quite tricky. Maybe I'm not doing it correctly. I've bought an eye bag too, so will do this o.certainly my kids give me a bit of peace. My face is so sore, I look awful and really old!

Hope you have a nice holiday and the eyes behave for you

This is so annoying!!! I find the hot compress's feel best but let's face it, we can't be doing this all day. I did get a RX for  Erythromycin (5 mg) and that cleared things up but I'm not out of the woods and I love to wear mascara but until you are rid of the worst of it... stay away from make up. no matter what.  The wet ones were a little to harsh for me.. but here in Canada , our Dollarma offers cleansing wipes with the Benzethonium Chloride and they are more gentle I find and only $1.25 . I keep a bottle of natural tears (drops)  in my purse at all times.  I have orderd from Amazon disposable mascara wands and will use them in a new cylinder once I feel up to it.  Lynda's comments in here really took me out of the dark at the onset..so thank you Lynda. Don't get depressed, it's not the worst thing you could have. Breath deep an deal with the many suggestions on the posts.something will work for you!

I've been plagued with this for a few years now. Went to 3 eye doctors and GP. The Wet wipes work for me but I finally gave in to make up brand change to all natural products and I think that was really my problem all along.

I also did a year of intensive allergy shots which now are at 3 shots every 3-4 weeks forever!

I know this is an old thread but I found it easily and others will, too, so I want to add my bit. The baby shampoo was useless but I found on the American Optometric Society page some advice about wetting a clean washcloth with warm water and leaving that on the eye for five minutes, then cleaning the lid. I used those disposable scrubs. It has worked. The scaly stuff showed up much more while doing this and now it's gone. Here's the link if I'm allowed to show it. http://www.aoa.org/patients-and-public/eye-and-vision-problems/glossary-of-eye-and-vision-conditions/blepharitis?sso=y

All, I tried the Wet Ones this past weekend and they seem to help.  The BEST solution (for me anyway) is a spray called Avenova, which comes in a small 40mL bottle.  It is designed specifically for Blepharitis.  In the States it is non-prescription, but I believe it's only distributed by Opthamologists, which is where I got mine.   I've also read that an "anti-candida" diet will remove the chronic nature of the problem in a few weeks.  My take-away from that is cut way back on carbs and yeast.  That makes sense to me -- mine seemed to start after a couple rounds of antibiotics after a sinus infection.  In spite of taking all the requisite probiotics, I suspect the system was overwhelmed.

I have been dealing with blepharitis for 6 weeks now with no

change, finally tried the wet ones along with the warm

compresses, and I'm starting to see an improvement, so

hopefully this will continue to get better.
