Treatment info for Blepharitis

Has anyone found treatment info specifically for Blepharitis? I'm told the same old things like "scrub with baby shampoo" and I'm not getting any better.

I'm frustrated and hope that some doctor somewhere has studied this terrible condition - and just want to find the answers!

Thank you,

Oliver, London

Hi, Oliver. I am a newbe, and have this nuisance  of a problem.

your absoloutly right! Nothing works. Have you heard of a treatment whereby they

expholiate your eyelids and definitely gets rid. The company is called Blephex  and is run by a doctor in America. I think this equipment is in Paris and New York. I have been  intouch with London and was told the apparatus was being considered here in UK this year. I'm willing to travel to Paris and anyone else who would like to join me

      Dear Mary,

Looked up some info for you.

I looked up BlephEx and found about 19 locations in the UK. There were 6 between Brighten and London. Leeds had 2 and there was 1 in Nottingham.

A phone number I found listed UK as 0800 -270-0253 for the BlephEx locations.

BlephEx™ works by reducing scurf and bacterial debris, the main causes of inflammatory lid disease –

On-line I looked up Bastyer Center for National Health and it said that tea tree oil (which is used on the little heads of the BlephEx machine) can kill certain staph skin infections.

The only thing is that the BlephEx is for 2-4 times a year and this report showed that it was a 2 week period of use for killing it on the surface of the skin.

If I could not use the hand wipes I would use this and in between use the tea tree oil. It has to be watered down I read too. It may not be able to be used daily either.

The other option I read about was virgin coconut oil. It is said to have antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties.

I use coconut oil but I would use it to try to kill the Blepharitis if I was allergic to the hand wipes.

      These are several options.

      Hope one helps you.

      Hi Lynda

Tea tree oil wiipes,,, trade name Cliradex go for $43.00 per 30 on Amazon. One of my doctors was selling them at a bargain price or $41.00. I have used tea tree wipes, diluted tea tree oil (burns if not diluted) and I was my eyes daily with tea tree oil shampoo. Not sure if it helped I guess it has not hurt but the Blepharitis is as fierce as ever. Do you have any idea of the cost of the BlephEX treatment?

      Dear Henry,

What I read online was it was between $65.00 to $85.00 per eye. It could be more depending on the doctor. Google BlephEx as quite a lot out there on it.

      Dear Kathy,

I just went to the doctor and she told me the BlephEx machine was only for the mites. She was quite disappointed she could not find the Blepharitis in my eyes.

Sorry for the bad news but I thought people would like to know the facts as I did not know that about the machine.

Oliver I know you posted over a year ago but just so you know i had cronic Blephritis and applying honey straight onto my eye lids all over has cleared it up 100% from time to time i feel it coming back so i just re apply. If you get it on your eye it stings for a litle but no big deal, don't use minoka hiney as it will burn your eye like hell.

so go buy some cheap honey and hopfully change your life. i wish you all the best of luck...

Sorry, I think I posted to the wrong person!  I was wondering if you diluted the honey for your eyes?  If so, how much water with the honey? Thanks :-)
  • Posted

Hi Oliver - did you dilute the honey?  I read about a man who also used just ordinary honey with water (apparently, the mixture creates a hydrogen peroxide?) so I've been diluting manuka honey and using it but just been to see the consultant and although my eyes were looking and feeling better, he said the blepharitis is still there.

Hi Oliver I was told I had Blepharitis in June 2012. Have tried just about everything including the Heralded "LipiFlow" treatment, cost $1600 USD and "worked" for about 4 weeks. Have been on Tobradex, prednisolone, azelastine, pataday etc. Ay you I do dthe hygiene routine 2-3 times a day. Nothing works! Presently on lotomax oinment and cream. However there is hope, just came across a thread on using "WET ONES" for Blepharitis. Contains BENZETHONIUM CHLORIDE 0.3%. People on thread h=who have used it swear it cures this disease or at least keeps it at bay. I am starting today 8/16/14. Let yu know how it works, takes 2-3 months but if it steadily gets better then it's a winner.

      Hi Henrty

Good luck....glad you are eventually trying the wet ones.....it took me a while to try them.....it seemed too easy to work but it does.

      This is a chronic disease ande although you can ease off and not do it asw much once you get on top of it if you find it starting to come back again....bounce on it and go back to the regular rountine {which I dont do now.....I still do it but not as strictly}

      Love

Hi Eileen  Thank you for the support and info. It is chronic and just when you thing it is easing up, it knocks you down again. There are far, far worse problems than Blepharitis, it is just very annoying and uncomfortable. I have great hopes for the Wet Ones, did my first treatment last night, 8/15-16. How do you keep the wipes moist if you tear them into smaller wipes? I wrapped them in aluminum foil.  I have roseaca too but the doxc (pills) did not work, maybe I should try the ointment? SWomething else, I have seborreah dermatis and I read that that is a big trigger so my dermatologist gave me Desonide Cream 0.05% and Ketoconazole 2% to use on my eyebrows in the hopes it will eliminate dandruff from hitting my eyes.

      Hi Henry

I do hope the wet ones work for you.....I was very sceptical  question at first.

I'm in the UK.....you i think are USA.....have you got the right ones.

Over here its the blue original wet ones but I think that its the red packet over there. See if you can find Lindas post. She's in the USA.

Its a particular ingredient {not just the wet ones} I cant remember the name ...Its 7.3oam here and I had a busy day yesterday so not wakened properly yetbiggrin

It is an awful illness isnt it......I have artritis, hip replacements, a fracture after one hip replacement back problems etc but  nothing could match how awful the Bleph. made me feel.

As for keeping them dry......I cut them up one lot at a a time, pop them back into the packet, and re seal it and put them in a small plastic bag.....seems to work.....OK as you get to the end they aren't quite as wet but still seem to work.  If the aluminium foil works...great...hadnt thought about that wink

Keep at it until it eases of thenI didnt do it as much but the minute I felt it coming back I jumped on them LOL and stared doing them faithfully until it disappeared again.  I tend to use the wet ones a couple of times a day now. The rest....drops and ointment when I feel they need it now.

      Just found the ingredient

Benzethonium Chloride (US) and Benzalkonium Chloride (UK)

Slightly different spelling. The first one is the one Linda found out about....the second one someone in the UK bought the Wet ones thinking that they were the same with the above slightly different ingredient and it worked so being in the UK  thts the ones I yse,....you try to look for the ones with the first ingredient on it....I think from memory its a red packet over there

      Love

      Eileen

      Good Luck with it

      Hi Eileen

Thank you for the reply. With due respect, Blepharitis is an extremely annoying disease but yu have battled some real life changers and are holding up well. In this day and age we have phones that are smarter than I am, can blow up the whole world by pushing a button, cure many forms of cancer etc. When one drug company finally figures out that millions of people all over the world have it and there is big bucks to be made then a "cure" will come fast. However by that time the Wet Ones may have been the cure we are all looking for

Hi Kathy I  have had it since June 2012. Got worse as time went on. LipiFlow looked like the answer but was a waste of $. I started using Desonide& Ketoconazole on my Eyebrows at night to klll off dandruff. Only doing so for 3 days. I have hiigh hopes for the wet ones. Tea Tree Oil is the rage too but it must be diluted or it nurns like hell, used it no good for me. One doctor wanted me to buy Tea Tree wipes for $41.00 a box named Cliradex

      Henry,

Just want to make sure that you know I made a mistake. It is .3% Benzethonium Chloride in the hand wipes. I put the Tox report on the other post to you. It does take a few months to kill.

      Wish you relief soon.

      Dear Henry,

I just posted to Mary on this page and it has the info on the BlephEx machine. I find it interesting as to where they attack the problem. Not in the eye as I found out.

It is probably a sign of hope for so many people who have this problem.

If a staphylococcus infection on the eye lashes can be killed then there is an antibiotic that will do it too.

Anyway, hope the info helps you.

Hi Lynda - Thank you  for the continued information. You are truly a God send. If The Wet Ones work for me I will be eternally grateful. Only wish I had spotted this site and thread earlier. About BlephEx...I received 2 emails from Doctor Ryerson, one with list of places that do procedure in NYC and one a thank you email from him to me after I told him my History. Nice man. Presently I am waiting for someone from Mount Sinai Hospital to get back to me, woman said there are 19 doctors on staff and she has to see who does BlephEx. I want to do it in a Hospital as there is a possibility that they may accept my insurance  or they might be more thorough when doing the procedure. When i  had Lipiflo done the doctor was making dry eye the cornerstone of hiis practice and I left him because after the LifoFlo failed and I was $1600 poorer all he did was Tobradex, more Tobradex and then medication to reduce the eye pressure elevated by using too much Tobradex

      Dear Henry,

Just went to the eye doctor yesterday and she could not find the Blepharitis.

She told me that they use the BlephEx machine only  on patients with the mites.

I told her about using the wipes on someone (100% of people I read have the mites if over 90) over 90 and the wipes were helping her. I only use them 2 times a week to keep in from getting bad. She has very little now.

She assumed that I used the wipes daily and said was bad. I told her I only used them to kill it and not now.

      Hope this info helps.

      Hi henryj527,

I bought the jar of Wet Ones.  I take the top off,  slightly pull one wipe out of the center and cut off only what i need.  Then put the lid back on. That way each wipe is wet and not sitting around.  The top comes off really easy.  If you are using the individual wipes I would put it in a baggie after you cut it in pieces.   Foil doesn't seem to be as air tight as a zip loc baggie.   good luck!  The Wipes have helped with the swelling and itching and redness.   My eyes are about 50% less bloodshot.  No more itching.  The only thing I am dealing with right now is one eye tears.  I have only been doing the wipes for about a week so I am hoping with more use it will also go away.
