Treatment info for Blepharitis

Has anyone found treatment info specifically for Blepharitis? I'm told the same old things like "scrub with baby shampoo" and I'm not getting any better.

I'm frustrated and hope that some doctor somewhere has studied this terrible condition - and just want to find the answers!

Thank you,

Oliver, London

I too have blepharitis and found that Doctors have no solution, other than suggesting using eye drops for dry eyes.  After leaving yet another appointment feeling really down, on the way home I noticed that a lot of people seemed to be sneezing (I wasn't) but I thought I wonder if taking an anti-histimine tablet and eye drops would help and it seems to have helped a lot, I still bathe my eyes.  I have stopped using so many eye drops, I might put drops in my eyes once or twice a day only somedays though.  Every night before going to bed put  a drop in each eye to keep them mositurised.

I have found that using eyedrops regularly throughout the day aggrevates my eyes, the fewer you can use the better.

Blepharitis is a ghastly condition and having sites like this are invaluable for tips and practical advice.

      Hi Carol,

I agree, these sites are so very valuable, more so than advice from the Dr.'s. It is a harsh disease, but unlike Cancer.  That is why I am amazed that there are cures for certain Cancers, but not this. I have come to the conclusion with so many people having it, it may be caused from environmental things, household items such as cleaners, etc. But as the saying goes, Misery Loves Comfort-Ha - I purchased some of the OCuSOFT LID SCRUB(PLUS) pre-moistened pads .  They are expensive, but they really give  a soothing feel to my lids. I have been using these about twice a day and also, about once a day, the Wet Ones. I purchased the Thermal DRY EYEMoist Heat Compress that is much easier than the hot cloth compresses. I found a place online for the disposable mascara wands - I think they are from China.  It took awhile to get them, but there are many in the package. If you are one of the lucky ones, who doesn't have to wear eye make-up, you do not need these.  But, I e

      Hi Carol,

I so agree. I have always liked the saying, " Misery Loves Comfort " frown Ha. But I too find these sites so valuable because we are all in the same boat and just want a little relief and are willing to try almost anything.  I recently purchased some of the OCuSOFT Lid Scrub (PLUS) premoistened Eye lid Cleanser wipes and use them twice a day. They are soothing to the crusty lids .  I also  use my WET ONES once a day and I use eye drops in the morning and no more during the day. I also purchased the Thermal Dry Eye Moist Heat Compress and love it  It is easier for me than the hot washcloth compresses .  I always seemed to get them toooo hot and burned my lid. I enjoy seeing the emails pop up from this group. If you happen to be one of the lucky ones who doesn't need to wear eye make-up, how fortunate you are.  I am not one of those.  When I do wear mascara, I now have the disposable wands .  I purchased a bulk online, I think from China.  It took awhile to get them, but I wa spleased and they weren't that expensive. With so many people getting this disease, I have to wonder if it is coming from our environment and/or everyday items we are using in our homes. Cheer up Carol-just remember you are not in this alone. winkKathy

      Hi

I enjoy these sites as well......I'm not on thisone as much as the arthritis ones but its the same thing.  People inthe same boat sharing their experiences......not doctors....who have their place but not of them are going through what we are going through be it Bleph or arthritis so the ones going through it are the better ones to talk to.

      Love

Yes Eileen and you do have your share of things . I am sorry you are going through all of this. I have developed arthritis in my right pinkie.  I cannot imagine the pain you're enduring as this is so painful.  It seems, one new thing will pop up and it makes you forget about the previous ones for awhile. cry

Thank you for your detailed text.  I thought I had tried everything on the market, clearly I haven't.  Do you use Ocusoft pre-moistened eye lid wipes and the eye mask (I have now brought 2 different ones) Is your one actually moist when you heat it??  Or is it a normal dry one.

I am going to buy the things you mentioned, when you have got this condition all you can do is throw money at it.  I have tried so many things, but not Ocusoft Lid Scrub Plus etc.  Thank you for the suggestion of disposal wands, a really good idea.   Carol

My girlfriend has the same thing, this was the second year she got it... So I got her Opcon-A Eye Allergy Relief Drops... It worked really well for her... went away in 48 to 72 hours she also took Benadryl and 1% cortisone ointment for the swelling

I have suffered for several years and tried the usual treatments with little success until now. An article in the Daily Mail recommended putting honey on your eyelids twice a day  and after a couple of weeks I've noticed a tremendous difference. It's a bit messy , best to get a squeazy jar , just the cheapest you can buy. I've even managed to wear eye makeup for the first time for ages over Christmas. Worth a try at about 99p  Good luck

    you

I am currently using allergy eye drops then lubricating eye drops and Vaseline . I've been to two doctors now. It's a hugevproblem that just started out if the blue but now it only goes away for a few days then I wake with swollen eye lids.

Latest eye surgeon said it blepharitis and allergy and get rid of my down feather quilt . So I did that and bought alkergy free quilt.

But if I don't keep up with Vaseline I get flakes and itchy .

This is crazy ! I might see allergist .

I have been diagonosed with blepharitis for almost up to year now, and previously had been struggling with treatment options. Various appointments to the opticians and doctors led me nowehere, and prescription creams did next to nothing. After a long period of trail and error, i finally found something that works. Every morning and night, with cotton wool pads, rince them under hot water and rub along the eyelid. This worked brilliantly and continues to!

    Hi Oliver

Google 'tea tree oil demodex blepharitis' for some v. useful info on treating/curing bleph caused by a microscopic skin mite, demodex. My son has been following this regime for about a month and his red eyelids, itchiness, scaling etc has almost gone - massive improvement within first 7 days, now slower but sure progress. Should take betwen 1 - 3 months to eradicate totally, but you do need to be rigorous in treating the eye at least 5 times a week for the first month at least. 100% pure tea tree oil is available in Holland & Barratt for under £5.00, we diluted 50/50 with basic olive oil for the once a week treatment, and 10/90 for the twice-daily treatment.

We thought it sounded bonkers when reading the research, but it has worked !!

Be careful here tea tree oil can burn your eyes like crazy. I use it for nails and I know it kills bugs on your dogs in a bath .just be very careful using it on your eyes.

I've had blepharitis for three years now and have tried lots of things to control it; baby shampoo, Selsun Blue shampoo, Nizorol shampoo and all sorts of creams. They sort of worked but my eyes always ended up very red and irritated. Finally, in desperation, I tried just standing under the shower head and letting the jets of water hit my eyelids for thirty seconds and that has worked better than anything else I tried and my eyes aren't red afterwards. I've been doing this for six months and don't have the itching any more. As they say on the internet: your mileage might vary......
