Treatment info for Blepharitis

Has anyone found treatment info specifically for Blepharitis? I'm told the same old things like "scrub with baby shampoo" and I'm not getting any better.
I'm frustrated and hope that some doctor somewhere has studied this terrible condition - and just want to find the answers!
Thank you,
Oliver, London

Why I say blepharatis is the fact that the consultant gave me a list on eye hygiene titled Blepharitis
Its not blocked tear ducts apparently its something to do with nasal passages being narrow and tears over flowing because of that but all this Doc does is give me the same nose spray each time.
I do the hygiene thingy but that and the spray do no good whatsoever.
Its very depressing.....Tears streaming down your cheeks all the time....inside outside using computer not using computer et Cant keep make up on cant put eye make up on.
I've got arthritis and and spinal problems.....they are chronic as well....but that's n. o problem I can cope with that I just find different ways of doing things and managing it....but this is completely different....leaves me so depressed
Sorry for the moan

It does spread to other areas for example my friend's spread up to her eyelids.
I found that the wipes with Benzethonium Chloride worked for me to get rid of Blepharitis.
I jumped on the fact my friend got rid of it and used something that had the same medicine in it as her facial scrub.
If it was not an infection this medicine would not have worked.
I am beginning to see that a lot of people will be content to wash with baby shampoo. I wasn't. I killed it and I am trying let others know they can get rid of this.
I think your link answer was meant for someone else as it wasn't me but I did want to get back to you.
Wish you well,
Lynda

Are you just wiping the base of the eyelashes horrizontal across where they meet to eye lid?

Yes, that is how I did it. I did a little more rubbing as I went along as my symptom was itching. The 4 times a day was for just a little over a week then went down. Several other people have devised a different program and still kill it.
Just make sure you are not allergic to shampoos, detergents, fabric softeners or handwipes or lanolin.
Hope you have relief soon,

Thank you for your advice. It's very kind of you to help others dealing with this problem. I have a question though.
My blepharitus is relatively mild. I have a thickening of one eye lid and it's reddish, especially when I had a bad night's sleep. Since I have a 'lazy eyelid' at the other eye, it's sometimes hard when I make contact with people, since there is something wrong with both my eyes.
My question is: will your solution of using the handwipes lessen the redness especially. Because that's my main concern.

I have people tell me that the redness goes away in a couple of weeks. Some have said their eyelashes grow back in too. It is a staph infection on the eyelash area of the eye. There are doctors who even say this and use antibiotics on the eyelash area (they call it off label use). I found that info on an online review of Ophthalmology.
Honjon, on this site, had the oily problem and he used the UK wipes with Benzalkonium Chloride in them and must have worked as we don't hear from him any longer.
If you are not allergic to shampoo, detergents, fabric softeners etc. or have sensitive skin and are not allergic to lanolin you can give them a try.
You can go down in the amount of times you use them per day when you feel the relief. After 1 1/2 weeks I went down to 3 times a day then 2 times. It did take over 3 months to kill it. I did not miss a day. When down to 2 times a day it is a breeze.
Wish you success.

I have purchased the hand wipes with Benzethonium Chloride 0.3% from the U.S. Just clarifying is it the 0.3% or the 0.03% you are suggesting be used ? Secondly, am I ok to wipe the skin on eyelid just above the lashes with the wipes? Or just the lashes & not touch the skin of the eyes with the wipe? Also how much wiping of the eyelid or lashes do I do? I would really appreciate your clarification on all of the questions thank you

I used the .3% one. I made an error in reading the back of the packet. I needed new glasses at the time. Sorry for that.
I wiped along the lash line. It did not bother me on the eye area. Just try not to get in the eye. If you do, rinse with water.
I started with 4 times a day for just a little over a week. I then cut down to 3 times and then 2 times a day for a couple of months.
I had Blepharitis for only 6 months so mine may not have been as bad as others but the itching was driving me insane.
You can rinse after 10 minutes too. It takes about 10 minutes for the Quats to work. I read that online. I did not rinse but it depends if you are drying out. Some have mentioned it is drying for them.
Hope this helps,

Thank you so much for the clarification. Mine is not so bad either just trying to get on top of it promptly. My other concern is the dry eye associated with it which requires using lubricant drops regularly..currently using Systane balance which seems to be helping though I'm wondering whether there are better alternatives...appreciate your input
Thank you

I have dry eye too. I use the preservative free ones. Eileen, on this site, got me to research the preservatives and I found that they can cause problems with long term use.
If you need steroids or other meds for the eye that have preservatives in them, why double up. Just my thoughts on the subject.
Hope it helps,

I was wondering if after you wiped your lashes and lid if you put any cream on after. And did you have swelling before using the wipes?
Thanks,

I used the US antibacterial wipes. I did not have swelling. I had the terrible itching.
This is a young girl I know who had thw swelling and she used the wipes and it went down fast.
I did not use any cream after using the wipes. You can wash off the lashes if you wait 10 minutes as that is how long it takes to work.
Some say, using the UK wipes that they are harsh.
Hope this helps you,

No, I did not use a cream after using the wipes. You could try washing them off with water after 10 minutes.
Are you using UK or US wipes? I post about the US ones that I used.
Hope this helps,

I have noticed brown staining under the bottom lashes. Have you heard of this before?

I have not heard of that before. Perhaps, someone on this site could answer that if they have had the problem. Have you asked your Dr? Did he say you had Blepharitis? My husband had the white dots on the rim of his lashes and the wipes took care of it and the Dr. said it was Blepharitis too.
You said your eye lids. Are you talking about above your lashes? I ask this because my friend who killed her Blepharitis with a facial scrub had it moving up onto her eyelids too.
You could start a new thread with that question and probably get some answers as I have not heard of the brown staining.
Sorry, not much help but if the wipes work it is probably a staph problem.

I Am seeing Doctor (GP) next Monday and will ask him.
the White dots are on the rim of the eyes around the lashes.
The brown staining could be dryness from the wipes?
wipes are working Thankyou
