Trial with VSL3 probiotic for IBS D

Hi,
I've decided to trial a few things on a 'longer' term basis for try and help with my Ibs.
I am on day 31 of VSL 3 probiotic. 1 sachet a day (on a morning) mixed into an activia yoghurt.
So... Up until 3 days ago I hadn't really noticed any improvement. I've not changed my diet in any way and eating at usual times and usual quantities of food. 3 days ago (and as I write this) my ibs seems to have calmed down. I've been passing solid stools and for the first time in years I'm actually passing a stool and not having to rush back to the toilet for a second attempt lol. I have also passed a few stools recently and the 'not finished' feeling has gone.
Not saying that this VSL is curing me or whatever as there have been times previously I've had no symptoms of ibs for a short period of time usually before an ibs attack.
Just thought ppl maybe interested. I will keep this post updated. Plan to stay on the VSL for a few months before I can judge 100% whether it helps my symptoms or not.
:-)

I've just decided to quit coffee, fizzy drink and alcohol. My stomach feels quite bloated and I felt almost hungover yesterday. Still taking the VSL daily. Also got myself some prebiotic as mentioned in previous posts. Planning on regulating my sugar intake and staying off fizzy drinks and caffine for a few months to see what happens. Everything else I'm keeping the same for the time being.
My anxiety is annoying. I refused to believe the doctor anxiety was an issue for me, yet I pretty much proved this last week when abroad. Although I did learn some new stuff about my ibs and symptoms from
Last week and got a few more ideas on trialling stuff to try and cure my ibs.

My name is Ben Ludlow and I am an osteopath in Potters Bar.
I've been working with a new line of products and especially a probiotic that has something a little different about it. I recognise carmel83758 really know what she is talking about and I respect her posts and read them with interest and am pleased that people like her are giving great honest advice.
So, what makes this product different? These probiotics are freeze dried and are woken up in like warm water. Then, within this process, they encapsulate themselves which protects them from the acidic environment of the stomach.
I would be happy to give anyone who is interested further information. We as a company are actually holding a 2 day seminar at the end of the month where the probiotic company will be speaking.
I think it's important that people are made aware of new developments and given an informed decision on whether it's right for you.

Right got an update...
Started caffine and fizzy drink + sugar free a week ago. Have been feeling really good recently so decided to eat pizza, baguettes, paninis etc and see how my body responds. I had a spicey pizza Tuesday night, followed by another vegetable pizza Wednesday... Well I was in bits. Felt rough as, woke up middle of the night sweating, aching, loads of gas, really really bad diahrrea for 24 hours non stop. Felt awful. Anyway...this was a test for me. Sugar and caffine do not cause my ibs symptoms to flare up. They do make my stomach slightly bloated and the coffee is a very very mild irritant. I'm happy sugar and coffee is ok if it's in my diet and regulated. The problem I have was with the pizza. Staying coffee and sugar free I've now been eating totally gluten free for 48 hours. I feel soo much better. My stomach is still cramping slightly and am still slightly bloated but think this is the remains of that pizza being digested and my irritated guts. I'm going to stick gluten free for a while and see what happens then introduce each of the pizza toppings onto my diet to see what happens. I'm on a quest to find out what exactly it is causing my issues.
This leads me on to say VSL although helpful has reduced certain symptoms for me and has made an improvement, but isn't going to cure my ibs. My ibs needs to be cured by (I'm pretty sure) permanent change in my diet to go wheat free, or gluten free etc. I don't know whether I have an intolerance, sensitivity, colitis, coeliac...etc but the VSL trial has now been completed for me with the conclusion that it's another product which can assist in relieving symptoms of ibs, but will not cure my symptoms.
Good luck
