Trigeminal Neuragia- Does anyone have a solution?

Hi, I am Suriya. 29 years old. When I was 27 I did a surgery for lump in my right hand. After the operation I feel this facial pain but occasionally. After my first child birth (which was a C-section), again I felt the same pain but in severe condition. Now I am having chronic pain in my left side face while talking, washing face, eating, drinking, in almost anything I do. I visited a doctor, he prescribed some medicine but it causes dizziness, confusion, drowsiness and nausea. It is not possible for me to continue with these medicines with my 9am to 5pm job and 1 year toddler.

I live in Bangladesh; I can only effort to visit India for treatment. I need your help to find right medication and a good doctor/treatment if you know in Bangladesh and India.

Waiting for feedback from you all

Suriya

Well there's nothing worse than writing a reply and having to disappear anyway, I'm Cathy and I probably been dealing with this for about five or six years 57 years old and sometimes sitting back and wondering how it's just gonna be feeling when I'm an old person being taken care of someone else he's not gonna know what to do it gets kind of scary but for while I'm taking care of myself I find that the most important thing you can do is keep your nerves calm occasionally it's going to get inflamed and cause problems . I think some of my best results come from keeping my teeth apart most of the time of course except when I'm eating I hope that I'm able to do it while I sleep at night with that thought. Another pretty important thing I find is keeping my ears clear of pressure Another pretty important thing I find is keeping my ears clear of pressure I think that contributes to the problem as well. I t you've already experienced the horrors of medicine they might temporarily help but they're really not solving the problem. I don't take medicine. The steps I take to keep calm I think work better and I don't have side effects. The only thing with what I do is you have to think about it and you have to discipline yourself and it takes a bit of effort but worth it . There are surgeries out there but if you talk to people and read about it they're not guaranteed and they come at high-risk something I'm not willing to take. Feel free to ask any other questions. I do more stuff but what I've told you here is where I started and it did help

      Hi Cathy,

Nice to hear from you. At the first phase of my journey with this disease I took pills like Carbamazepine 200mg and Pregabalin 100mg as advised by my neurologist. But it caused dizziness, confusion, drowsiness and nausea. With these medicine waking up in morning or taking care of my baby or going office was tough. Then I stopped taking the pills. But day by day pain is increasing. Now I talk very limited as while talking I feel severe pain. the most painful part is I can’t even communicate with my baby as I suppose to. I did some research online and I am trying to find the pressure points of pain and keep pressuring on points. sometimes it works but most of the time it doesn’t work. but I surely try your advice and let you know soon if I find any improvement.

      Thank you again.

    hello Suriya.

my daughter has trigeminal neuralgia, and she takes various medicines for this.Opiates may help with ordinary pain but you need nerve-blockers for this.Tegretol (Carbemazepine) is her best help, and Gabapentin,Amitriptyline at night helps her sleep without pain. You probably have to start on a low dose of all these meds and work up to a dose that controls the pain for you. Be careful with Gabapentin and Amitriptyline, they can both make you woozy .Try and get your drugs from a GP,not the internet,as you might pay just as much online and not get the real thing.Cold compresses help, and avoiding the sun on your face for any length of time.

Good luck ,and I hope you find what suits you so you can live as normal a life as possible-not easy when you're in agony every day

Suriya-what I forgot to mention was,If you do decide on surgical treatment, and you are still very young,as my daughter is,then you need to find a good neurologist /neurosurgeon.There are many treatments ,not every treatment works for everyone, and if the pain can be managed with medicine, they are less likely to intervene. Is there a good teaching hospital you could get to,and would your GP refer you to a neurologist there? Most GP's don't come across T N very often and their text -books are quite old.

What I do remember is my daughter screaming  in pain all day,not being able to eat or drink, then being whisked off to hospital and given carbemazepine and gabapentin, and within hours  she was in a lot less pain-and eating by morning, having slept all night,Such a relief.
