Anyone with trigeminal neuralgia find it painful too eat? I can't eat without being in severe pain, even when it's soft foods. If im going to be in this amount of pain everytime I eat I'd rather not eat.

Hi Aimeeleigh, I remember feeling just like that when it first started for me! I used to eat tiny amounts at a time, feeding myself with my fingers so that I didn't have the metal of fork or spoon in danger of touching my lip or teeth. It was horrible. However, after some trial and error with medication and my GP, we got it under control and now, although I very occasionally get a sensation - I have no pain at all (fingers crossed it remains that way). I know that from many posts on this forum that I am one of the lucky ones but please do hang on in there and keep persevering.

Hi Aimeeleigh, I'm the same but I liquidise foods and use a smoothie cup and straw to eat. I can just about use the straw with touching any trigger points. Today my diet has been banana, double cream and milk blitzed in the blender. Yesterday I had a custard made with cream, eggs and nutmeg then blended with cold milk. Baby food it may be but it's keeping me fed with chewing.
Hope you get some relief soon.
Jinny.

My reply should have read "keeping me fed without chewing".

interesting Jaynep - I found I couldn't suck so that wouldn't have worked for me! We're all different I guess.

I went through 10 days without eating...just protein shakes and smoothies. I used a straw and sipped on one side of my mouth. I also couldn't brush my teeth. Ultimately, I ended up in the E.R. and received I.v. Pain killers. Take it a day at a time.
