trigeminal neuralgia

i've had TN for around eight months now and after taking carbamazepine for around two months with devistating side effects, I was taken off it ASAP and given Gabapentin instead. At first everything was fine but the pain quickly returned. I'm now taking 3300Mg per day plus Aniltriptiline every night to help with sleeping which has worked - I sleep fine. The problem i'm no faced with is i can only increase  my medication by 300Mgs, which is one week then i'm faced with the pain clinic. Has anyone been down this route?  And if so what happens at the clinic?

                                           Thanks

I think what your gonna find is that no drug ever fully takes pains away best to hope for is that they reduce to a level you can cope with and live your life I've been battling this constantly gor 17 mnths my only hope now is my neurosurgeon review comes quickly and he's understanding enough to do surgery. This condition is so debilitating and unless you've taken the drugs available for it you won't fully appreciate what we as sufferers battle with daily to answer your question I've never been to a pain clinic maybe they could be helpful it's never been offered to me good luck hope you find some balance.

I've had TN/SUNA for 13 years . I do know what it feels like so I do feel for you. I am afraid to say that everybodyreacts in different ways and different drugs are used by different Neurologysts so it's all try and try again.  More people are trying operations now and even under Dr recommendation lots of different drugs but they do take a while to kick in which is not what you want to hear when you are in pain.     Keep on at your Dr to refer you to different people until you find one that you are reasonable happy with. Are you in UK. I go to London Neurology and Head clinic.     Take are and inspectors you get remission and pain free whilst you  got some help.
