Trigger - snorting water
.
I am fully panicking ! Can anyone please calm me . I’m in tears ,
I’ve never been so immediately scared this bad .
I have had a mild sinus infection , blocked nose for a week or two . I have looked up lots of websites for help and a fair few suggested saline sprays or snorting warm water in shower to break down mucus . I have been doing this almost daily in the shower and I’ve come across a website that states snorting water in a massive no no due to naegleria Fowleri being found in tap water and fresh water pools , swimming’s lakes etc which is almost always fatal. Says symptom will present 1-15 days and only 4 people in world are known to survive . I have never ever known this and my kids often get our spa water in their nose
But at least with that it’s disinfected with chemical .
Help ..
I’m Actually so scared. Why isnt this more commonly known . Is that it ? I just wait to see
If I die ..
I know that sounds over dramatic but I am
Sooooo scared. i rang a nurse and they said its fatal but they cant advise if i will or wont catch it .
, I have two kids . I’m crying . I had no idea snorting water was not safe, i was just trying to rinse with warm water 😞

Hi,
I don't know much about this problem. However, a google search tells me that 138 case reports of PAM have occurred in the US from 1962-2015. That's 138 in 53 years. Out of that, I bet not many were related to inhalation in the shower, if any at all. I know your mind will be racing from reading about the amoeba at the moment, but it seems doubtful. Often our minds jump to the worst case scenario, it's our caveman senses. Hope this helps you!!!

you are completely correct , i was upset earlier thinking i had 5-25 days to know if i was symptom free then read an article of a seattle woman who died after a year !! of course to send my mind more crazy she done as i did and flushed her sinuses with tap water . she has a seizure and when hospitalised they realised the parasite had been working away for close to a year . its terryfying

Statistically, the chances of you getting hit by a bus are higher than the chances of you dying from PAM. Many times we're more afraid of perceived threats than we are of real ones.

remember that the water in the shower in civilized countries is drinkable because it comes from a clean water supply.
and not from a lake/stream etc and most countries have chlorine in the water as well which kills bugs
check out the link below and whoever you rang obviously doesn't have much knowledgeable information, I wouldn't think its too good to carry out this activity too often though so check with your GP if your sinuses stay blocked as you can buy saline spray.
just chill a bit

alexandria thats what i assumed , i thought tap water was chlorinated but wvery website regarding this brain eating disease lables tap/ faucet water and untreated . i just feel silly as im sure many have accidently gotten water up their nose but what silly person (ie-me) purposely puts it up there with no clue of the dangers .
i have genuinely never been so worried x

I have been assured that tap/faucet water that is plumbed underground and chlorinated is ok and would be free of the bug, whereabouts are you and is your water coming from a reputed site, do your children bathe in this water and have they had any problems

thankyou, i live in victoria australia . i thought all tap water was chlorinated also but according to every websitw ive come across tap water is included in the dangers hence why neti pots come with a sachet of chemicals . i honestly had no idea of the dangers and i know im repeating myself but i feel extremely stupid for not knowing and ultimately scared .

I haven't read any where that it can occur from chlorinated water but im not looking for it in an illogical way.
Anxiety especially health anxiety makes us catastrophie everything that is effecting us, i suggest you ring your local water authority and ask them the question, they will know better than anyone
