Trimalleolar ankle fracture 5 weeks post op

Posted , 2 users are following.

Timeline: Fall 6 July, operation 15 July, 1st post op check 2 August, 6/7 week check up due 6 Sept.

Feeling down at the moment. Can't do anything but read and watch TV without carers helping twice a day. Good leg wobbly so crutches no good, walkers etc no good as i'm not good at hopping around, being several stone overweight. Have hired a knee walker/scooter for 3 weeks to be able to be more self sufficient, but it hurts my shinbone (despite putting padding inside cast) too much at the seam where they took my cast off, removed my stitches then put same cast on again. Frustrating. I am also battling an ecoli bladder infection acquired 5 weeks ago for which i'm on the second course of antibiotics.

Anyone else on here going through similar situation? Any tips if you're further along?

hello, I've just come across this forum and hopefully it will be a godsend. I'm afraid I'm behind your timeline rather than in front but it's good to know I'm not the only one in this predicament. I'm 59. I

fell 4th August, dislocated and Trimalloelar fracture. they put the dislocate back on the day then I had a wait until Friday 13th for surgery to plate it. Been home 10 days now, told to expect appointment by end of this week (at 2 week stage) to remove stitches, xray and new cast but it's come through for 6th September (over 3 weeks) so that's adding to my anxiety. I felt so unprepared for life at home even though I know I'm very lucky to have help, a bed downstairs, access to toilet etc. I have a walker but don't feel very steady on it. I'm not designed to hop either. Daren't try crutches. Bought knee scooter, sure will be great in a few weeks time but the metal splint digs in. I'm confident enough to get to the toilet and transfer from walker but need help to get off toilet. Small room, can only pull myself up on one side. Have looked into frames etc and just won't work in the space. Will I get stronger and more able to push up and balance on one leg? Terrified of falling again. Also terrified of accidentally weight bearing. I have nightmares about doing that! Thanks for listening and hope you're feeling better. A bladder infection is wearisome at the best of times, poor you.
