Trimalleolar Fracture

I've been wandering around here for a couple of weeks and it's really helped me to feel better about what's going on. I thought I'd share my story.
I'm 2.5 weeks post ankle fracture and dislocation and 1.5 weeks post ORIF surgery. I was just learning to skateboard (yes, at 35 years old and no, I won't be continuing that hobby) and was starting to feel more confident. Skateboard hit a pebble. I went flying and landed completely wrong. Mostly medical staff have been amazed I received this injury from just falling off a skateboard. I wasn't even going fast. Anyway, I just got stitches and staples out today and a hard cast put on. Everyone says it's healing well and it looks good. X-RAYS show one long plate with screws and several other screws holding it all together. Doc says hardware will stay in forever unless it causes me problems. I must say I was surprised by how overwhelmed I felt when they took the soft splint off and I saw the long row of staples and multiple incisions with stitches. I knew I had injured myself badly, but that really drove it home.
Anyway, I was hoping the removal of stitches/staples would ease the stinging sensation, but it hasn't. How long will the incisions sting for? Mostly all other pain is gone, except for when I move funny or just random aches. I'd just really like this stinging sensation to go.
Thanks!

i am 7 months post a trimalleolar fracture and a similar age to yourself (34), I was fortunate that my ORIF surgery was conducted the next day following my dislocation. from my experience I found that the pain of the stiches lasted about 3 weeks or so from having had the staples removed, it usually flared when the the leg was tilted so the weight was over the stiches area.
unfortunately its a long road to recovery but keep your morale up and you will get there.
wishing you all the best with your recovery!

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll just have to work on being patient. I'm trying to keep my spirits up. I'm planning to go back to work in a couple more weeks. Though I expect new pain and discomfort once I return to work, I'm hoping the distraction of work will help. Thanks again!
