Trimalleolar fracture removal of hardware

Posted , 2 users are following.

My tibia and fibula fractured on 15 may, 2017 and a plate with 9 screws and a clip implanted. It's 11 months passed but still there is pain during walking at the hardware area. I started walking since one months without walking stick but with pain. Can any body suggest me what to do. Should I consult the doctor to remove hardware. Is it a complicatedsurgery? I am afraid of surgery which can take few months to recover again. If anybody who gone such type of surgery please share your experience. Thank you.

Consult your doctor. I broke my ankle (trimalleolar fracture) on Feb 2nd this year with a plate and 10 screws being placed and my surgeon plans to remove the large screws 12 weeks post surgery. He says it is walk in/walk out with little downtime, just managing the wounds after. Most people on these forums who have had hardware removal are very positive about it increasing range of movement and easing stiffness. Will let you know in a few weeks!
