Trimalleolar recovery

Posted , 6 users are following.

It's been 12 weeks since I broke my ankle, it was a trimalleolar break. I was in back slab for 2 weeks, boot for 4 weeks and told to walk independently from that time. 6 weeks without boot or crutches and my ankle is still a very odd shape.. Is this normal? When should I expect my foot to look somewhat normal?image

it will be like that for a while. the swelling and the ankle getting used to the weight being put on it. my ankle had the same odd shape but it will get better. with the plates and screws in the ankle it will never be exactly like the other ankle but it will get close .

I have same break as well, a plate and screw on right outside and 1 screw on the inside. I am still on crutches. So YOU are lucky for your fast healing foot/ankle. My surgery was March 4. I have bone edema now I guess from putting WAY TOO MUCH weight on it in P.T. (So STUPID). My ankle is not too swollen now but is not exactly back to the right size as my left ankle. Doc says it is normal as do the P.T. people. Good to know that everybody thinks this abnormal looking fat ankle is normal. Just can't wait for me to get back to walking normal WITHOUT excrutiating pain. Good Luck.

Hi Mike, all perfectly normal. I am 16 months after almost identical fracture and surgery. NOW, my ankle ( the right one was broken)looks like this and the scars are barely visible. It will always look a little thicker but.nobody but me notices. Good luck with your continuing recovery.image

Thank you all for your input!!

It all just concerned me as I was initially told I would not walk for 12 weeks, then told to go fwb after 6.

    I shan't worry now 😃

Hope you all continue to recover as well as possible
