Trimethoprim, one to avoid

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hello, on behalf of my late sister, I write to inform, and warn all ladies of the dangers of the anti-biotic trimethroprim.

After being perscribed the said drug she became graveley ill, mouth ulcers

eventually spread to her intestinal area, bone marrow dried up, with all the resultant problems.

she died a very untimely death in June last.

The death certificate cited the drug as the cause of death.

An inquest is due shortly, If I may be allowed to report it's findings at a

later date I would appreciate the fact.

    Dear Baz,

I am very sorry for your loss. I had a similar experience after being perscribed Trimethoprim for a UTI. Four days after starting the course of tablets given to me I suffered a fit like seisure and passed out for 20 minutes. When I came too I vomited violently for the next 6 hours and could not stop shaking. My family called an ambulence and I was rushed to A & E where I passed out again.

After being rehydrated and anti nausea meds given to me via drip, I was told my blood tests came back normal. I was kept in hospital for 6 hours until I stopped vomiting and was rehydrated and then was allowed to return home. 5 days later I am still suffering from acute nausea & stomach pain, diarrhorea & cannot keep food down. I have had to cancel a week of work because of it.

In desperation I called a client of mine who is a Doctor who qualified & trained in South Africa, this is what she said to me: \"Trimethorprim very commonly has side effects such as yours & will can stop breathing in astmastics. What you are experiencing is an allergic reaction & the best thing you can do is take an anti-histamine to counter act the side effects you are suffering.\" Which I have done today & the soreness in my body is going & not so nauseous now.

I have never felt so ill in my life and think it is awful that doctors are prescribing this medication still when it obviously has such severe side effects on many people.

I hope my experience & the advice given to me can help any one else suffering from these awful side effects.

    Dear Bazz,

It is a long time ago since you posted the sad news about your sister. I think I replied to you then via the private link.

I am doing so again because I have been ill with the effects of this drug for about 3 years - it has brought me to a standstill.

If/when I get better, I would like to do something positive to get this drug banned. If I get anything underway - could I contact you for more information on your experience.

No need to go into detail on this email - yes or no would be helpful.

    Best regards,

    Hi Bazz,

I am so so sorry to hear your story. The more I hear about this drug the more I want something done to get it removed from the market. I hope one day someone listens and we can eradicate it once and for all so no one else need suffer.
