Trimethoprim severe reaction

Thanks to all who have posted comments on here as it really helped me when I was going through a nightmarish time on Trimethoprim:I had a reaction to it 4 months ago after having taken it many times. The 2 previous times I had taken it I had developed a rash and intense itching on my chest and legs but this had passed off. However the last time I took it I only took 2 tablets and within 2 hours my body looked as though I had sunburn, I had hives and was itching all over, including palms of hands, soles of feet, scalp and gums; rash on face, my tongue and lips became swollen, lips tingling, eyes itchy/red, throat extremely sore, had diarrhoea, severe headache, nausea, difficulty breathing and extreme, nightmarish anxiety, sweating and shivering. My doctor told me to stop them immediately which I did. The severe symptoms persisted for several weeks. They happened after every meal and I became unable to eat most foods apart from rice and sweet potato as I experienced severe allergic-type reactions to everything I ate. My doctor put me on steroids which seemed to cure it. I saw a specialist who did comprehensive allergy testing and showed I was not allergic to any foods. He concluded that I had an allergy to Trimethoprim which had caused a metabolic reaction. I am fine now but the reaction seems to be continuing as I have just taken Erythromycin which I have always been ok with before but after 2 days I developed sunburn rash, hives, itching and severe panic attacks so had to stop them. Will be going back to see the consultant to try to shed some light on this. Regarding UTI's - it is really worth trying D Mannose powder as it cleared mine up better than any antibiotics ever have - apparently cranberry juice is NOT GOOD for UTI's and can make them worse - which has certainly been true for me.

No pain / burning down below from Trimethoprim but if you had a UTI that could be one of the symptoms?

I too had the itching and redness on palms of my hands, itchy swollen eyes, hives on neck, chest, hands knees and elbows. This all started on day 7, although i had noticed a barely there rash a few days before. I was taking 200mg twice a day for a UTI. I stopped taking them immediately but 2 1/2 weeks on symptoms still persist. Am really itchy!
