Trimming toenails...

What the heck?

There is NO way I can trim mine on the surgical side. Do I have to go to a salon and have a pedicure?

    Hiya smile

If you don't have a friend or partner who will do it for you then a podiatrist is your best bet.  It will be less expensive than a salon.  I can just about do mine lying on the bed and bending my leg up behind me.  I have some longer-handled clippers bit it's a bit of a raggedy job but it will do until I can bend.  I'm pre-op bit I can't reach the toes on my bad side.

I didn't think of that!!! I love my podiatrist, she's done 2 bunionectomies and a bone spur removal at base of big toe. I'd be thrilled to see her and say "cut my toenais" Alas, she charges $40 and those walk in pedicure places charge $25, plus you get them polished. My insurance doesn't cover "toenail trimming" either. Boooo

Whoah! I didn't think it would be more expensive.  Perhaps something I could consider then after my op lol

If you can, I'd go in right before surgery so feet will be pretty when you're on "the table". Then, they'll be short and you won't need to trim them for awhile. My surgery was Nov. 23 and that's about 9-10 weeks. I looked and those are some nasty looking things. Don't know why it's been this long before I thought about my toenails. I've "been busy" doing nothing but PT, 3 x daily at home, 3 times a week in the studio. I'm sore and just grouchy most of the time. ( has nothing to do with my toenails ) LOL

Omg I haven't had my surgery yet and was hoping that...cutting toenails would be a problem cleared up along with painting toenails shaving leg below knee putting on sock etc. I have my husband cut them or my best friend or if desperate my neighbour. No one seems to mind.

In a word.......YES, two friends did mine, first were so jagged, second nearly cut my toe off and made it bleed. At least by going to someone who does it professionally you will enjoy pampering and have nice tootsies Xx

I am 4 months out have been going to a nail salon. I get my feet soaked, toenails cut and I asked them to put cream on my legs. They charge me $10. It's a deal. I've had it done 3 times now. I don't let them file or take off excess dead skin. It's too risky for infection. They were super nice about it.  Hope that works for you. Don't know when I will be able to do mine so I will continue this until I can. I don't  trust my husband because he cuts his way too short.

Wow - what a deal. I'm coming to your house. Let's make it a party. Men are invited too! A good excuse to be pampered by a pedicure if you've never had one. Explain to all the other men. "This is Prescription"
