Triptan usage

How many days a month have you been told is safe for triptan usage. I've been told 2 times a week, I read where someone takes one everyday as her preventative.

I have a repeat prescription for 12 sumatriptan a month (3 a week), sometimes I need that, other times I can go 7-10 days without. My neurologist wasn't happy with me taking so many so for the past 2 years I have been on Pizotifen which meant most of the time I could get by with just taking paracetamol but recently my migraines have increased to almost daily. I have another appointment with my neurologist in May.

My 13year old daughter was prescribed the wafer triptan which goes under the tongue. This was meant to be given every time she had a cluster headache attack which unfortunately, is constantly, but was told no more than 4 a week. Immigran was given also to be given when necessary. Hope this helps

Triptans are not to be taken as a preventative

i take between 1-3 each migraine episode which for me can last between 1-3 days, they are most effective if taken early after onset
