Trivial question post bunion op

Hi, I'm 19 days post op for fusion of the MTP joint & everything is going ok so far - but I seem suddenly to have a lot (big chunks) of dead peeling skin on my heel, along the side of my foot & under my big toe, is this normal? It is extremely trivial but I just wondered if anyone else experience this?

Hi, i'm 22 days post op and my whole foot is peeling on the top and underneath. When i changed my dressing i did moisturise with E45 cream and arnica on the scars. It's obviously not enough though! I would normally moisturise my feet every day. It's horrible isn't it.

    Kind regards Sue

Thanks Sue, glad it's not just me! I have been using CCS foot care cream which is usually brilliant for dry skin but hasn't prevented all the peeling, I was wondering if it was to do with having a tourniquet on for so long??

      Kind Regards Fiona

Mine did the same. I had put it down to lack of care previous to my op, but clearly not! Actually once they stopped peeling my feet look a lot better and a lot of hard, dead skin is gone now.

Same here 😉 bio oil and e45 cream but it's still the same...looking forward to pins out and then soak my feet and book a good pedicure in

I believe so. I too have big chunks of dead skin that I can't peel off. It looks disgusting. Another contributor LadyPink has advised E45 cream.

Thanks everyone, looks like I can look forward to nice smooth feet once all the dead skin has gone, I'll carry on moisturising.

Hi Fiona, All that dead, flaking, peeling skin sounds pretty normal to me. I had exactly the same and I've also just posted a message to 'Bev', who was complaining of her feet looking 'like road kill' too. I've advised her to try using E45 Cream. It's amazing for getting rid of all that dead skin and it leaves your foot lovely and smooth too. Not only that, it softens the scar(s) and helps make it fade You'll soon find your foot will be as smooth as a baby's bottom!

I'm 9 wks post op after a Scarf Akin Osteotomy and back to normal life already. My foot is very slightly swollen but I'm wearing my every day flat walking shoes and can't believe that I'm back to doing what I did before, so soon.

Anyway, give that cream a try; I'm sure it'll do the trick. All the best. LadyPink

Thanks Ladypink, I will, I have been using CSS foot cream & arnica gel on  my scar, but I'll give the E45 cream a go. Glad you've made such a good recovery, I hope I'm back to normal by 9 weeks, cheers Fiona

Hi Fiona, I'm sure you'll do just fine. I do think it's always encouraging when you hear from others a little further ahead. It gives you a target to aim for, don't you think, so for me, from start to finish it's taken 9 weeks. Best wishes, LadyPink

Definitely use E45 cream. Once you can start to soak your feet and use E45 then the skin will sort itself out really quickly. Having had hard skin for a long time due to bunions, it feels amazing to have no hard skin,

I absolutely agree with you regarding the use of E45 Cream. It makes such difference to your skin - and it's so wonderful with that horrible bony bunion gone too and lovely straight toes. It's like I had a brand new foot for Christmas and I can't stop secretly looking at mine. It doesn't take much to make me happy these days. HaHa! . LadyPink

It's normal, it's your dead skin going away. You will have new .
