Trouble sleeping in bed, but fine on the sofa?!

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me? I've always been a great sleeper, I go to bed and I go to sleep. However, the last month or so this has changed, I can't think of a particular reason as such, although I do own and run a busy salon which at times can get stressful and I have recently come off of the contraceptive pill that I have been taking for 10 years. (but I'm not sure if this would make a difference) To start off with I was tossing and turning in bed for hours and through fear of keeping my partner awake went down on the sofa, this happened for a few nights in a row and found as soon as I went downstairs I went to sleep! And now as soon as I go to bed I feel panicky and feel a burning feeling in my chest/stomach until I get so fed up I go back downstairs, and within 20mins I back asleep! After a good night sleep last night (all be it on the sofa) I'm feeling abit more possative and 'with it' today but I am already thinking about how I will be tonight. I've taken nytol a few nights but I really don't want to get into that, and I don't enjoy sleeping alone on the sofa and would really appreciate it if anyone has experienced this and has and tips for helping me not feel so anxious about going to bed! Thanks smile

This just sounds like a sleep hygiene issue.  At some point you started not sleeping too well and came to lose that association between drowsiness/exhaustion and your bed, but found it on the couch.  It's really good that you are managing to sleep okay on the couch, so at least you have that going for you!  I would say if anything, get back into a routine going to bed at night.  Maybe stay up a little later than normal so that you are sleepier when you go to bed.  Def avoid any TV while in bed. If you find that you can't go to sleep, get up and do something relaxing, but go back to bed when you get sleepy as opposed to staying on the couch.

well, in my opinion, you are having restless nights due to your stressful work.

sometimes taking simple measures could sort out the problem. I had to run a beauty parlor for a couple of weeks due to my senior co-worker's absence at work. I could feel the stressful nights I had been through those days.

1.I consulted my doctor friend. he told me to do light exercises before going to bed.

    2. Moreover, my neighbor asked me to try

which I also tried to go as much natural as possible

    3. IMO sometimes reading a book might solve the problem (even if it's not your hobby)

This is typical sleep anxiety. It does have to do with the coming off of the contraceptive. Hormones have everythng to do with sleep!!! Should go away. If not, you can always go back to the pill. I 've had that for years.  Be happy that you can sleep on a sofa. I recently entered perimenopause and sleep only every other day.  Be happy!  If necessary go back on a pill.
