Trouble swallowing?

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi everyone. Yesterday I had a severe panic attack and had to go to the hospital. They ran some tests and determined that I am fine. However, just as we left the ER my throat began to hurt. Like a painful lump. Then I went to dinner and had trouble swallowing the food, and it felt like it was getting stuck in my throat. So now I'm confined to liquids and soups. Is this normal? Is this anxiety? A reaction from my panic attack? I'm going to a minuteclinic today to make sure my throat looks okay. Thank you

    Hi Charlie,

I suffer from anxiety and lump in the throat is a normal symptom to have from anxiety but if you want to make sure you should go to GP. If you can't swallow food and water then I would get it checked out.

      Hey Serap,

Went to minuteclinic. They examined my throat for any residual strep (I'm finishing a course of antibiotics today) and tested for strep and oral thrush, both came back negative. She felt my lymphnodes, which weren't inflamed. Said my swallowing was normal and that it was a stress/anxiety response, and if I have to, stick to soft foods and fluids until it passes.

That's great. Try not to think about it and it will go. I just keep drinking lots when it happens to me.

I have the same issue feels like a lump in my throats when swallowing, my lymph nodes are swollen there also so I'm hoping it's just the time of the yr with seasons changing and maybe just getting sick but have put off going to the dr partially out of fear of the result so I know that part is my anxiety the dr I'd probably the best advice if no other reason then to give you peace of mind and I will most likely be goin thursday since I have off work and give me time to build up to it lol good luck

Go to your Clinic and if you are clear it may be anxiety, try losenges for a time and if it does not clear see your GP, Your GP will be able to console you and decide what he advises
