Trouble swallowing as celiac symptom

I've been having odd symptoms (from shortness of breath to reflux to trouble swallowing) since getting really sick in March 2020 (pneumonia, but not COVID). Recently I got results from a duodenal biopsy that are consistent with celiac disease. Right now my worst symptoms are an inability to swallow solid food, feeling like I'm full all the time, sore throat and constipation. I know celiac can have a variety of symptoms, but as far as I can tell these all seem fairly abnormal. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced symptoms like this and seen them improve when eliminating gluten and how long it took in those cases.

hi julia, i am Sam and i have coeliac disease. i was diagnosed just last year. i have allergies on top of coeliac disease and because of this i have to really really carefully watch everything i have and read every ingredient on anything i attempt to have. i have the usual symptoms of ibs plus problems with pea protein, soya and beans and pulses too. i find food a nightmare! oh i didn't mention i am veggie on top. mt swallowing problems ate there during a panic attack or food reaction - i get a dry throat, pain in my stomach, diarrhoea and the most awful uncontrollable shakes too. i found i feel like i get an impending doom feeling sometimes as well. coeliac disease i don't think causes these symptoms but i am really no expert. i wish you luck. to be diagnosed did you have to have a camera test? it could be thinking of that that has set this off?

Yeah i had an endoscopy a few weeks ago and thats when they realized it could be celiac. I don't think my swallowing issues are anxiety related though because the way i noticed them was by getting food stuck in my throat for several hours and it happened with all sorts of foods from rice to nuts and just seemed like my esophageal muscles weren't able to push things down. I've seen two case studies of people with celiac who presented with trouble swallowing so I guess it's a thing, it's just really rare.

hi Julia, i can't remember the name of it but there is a condition that stops the flap shutting at the top of your stomach. have you seen a specialist about this? it doesn't sound funny and you need more support with it. have you spoken to coeliac UK about this? they have health specialists and they may be able to tell you what you can do or support you in other ways your doctor or hospital consultant can they are available online and then you'll found ways to join and get some help. welcome to the coeliac club!
