Trying a grain free diet to curb PHN pain after 6 years

Just when I say I'm accepting the inevitable, this pain is here to stay, just deal with it, my doctor kicks me in the butt but saying she can only prescribe 56 hydrocodone pills for a 90 days period. Any more than that needed and she has to send me to pain management. Well 56 is a long way from 90, and at an average of 1 pill a day, that's just not good math. I don't want to go to pain management again and be given mind altering drugs as they "fix" for the symptoms. I want some control in how this is managed, and already determined that none of the typically prescribed drugs work without ugly side effects. I was content to just stay on the one pain pill per day regimen, until this continued government cut back on opioids continued to bite me and other non-addicts who just need these to live a normal life.
As I shared my concern with my Sunday School class, a woman later that day gave me a book called "No Grain, No Pain". Very interesting book on how following a grain free diet eliminates pain, as well as the whole pain pill cycle that we may never get off of if something drastic does not change. This didn't come from my doctor, but I thought why not give it a try, as I did all those worthless drugs. What do I have to lose after giving this 30-day diet a try - (other than the 5 pounds I lost in the first 4 days of following this!). I just did some research on grain free diet and phn and found a few sites speaking of a possible connection. The book hasn't mentioned shingles/phn in particular (which was unfortunate for me) but the 2 sites suggesting a connection add a little weight to this.
So friends, if you've tried this, I'd love to hear from you. I'll certainly check back in with my own results. I'm at day 5 on it now and still having daily pain, although 5 pounds lighter is happiness to me! I'm willing to commit at least 30 days, possibly 90 to make it to my next scheduled doctor's appointment and hope to let her know the results.
