Been on Oxycontin for last 5 weeks after TKR- taking 30 mg Longtec night and morning. Reduced morning dose to 20mg at end of last week but feel rotten .Also very constipated despite Lactulose whole time on Oxy. Chemist advised Movicol on Sat and seems to be working but very nauseated! Withdrawal or Movicol cause of nausea and chills??

I was exactly the same. I was on oxycontin and oxynorm too long. I had to try hard to get off them, like Barb said it was about a week with withdrawal symptoms such as flu like cough, phlegm and no energy.
It was worth getting off them as I am like a different person now, back to myself, exercising more, still not 100% but much more positive.
Take care,
Alan

Hi Mary Edna
?I am 5 weeks post PKR tomorrow. I have been on Tramadol for almost 5 weeks 400mg per day (4x2 tabs) I was so fed up of feeling nauseous that even though still in pain I decided to come off it. I dropped down to 6 tablets for a few days then 5 tablets for a further two days then missing one altogether it turned out I had been 18 hours without any so since Saturday have gone cold turkey just taking paracetamol and ibuprofen. I do feel terrible, shivering and sick. It is an awful feeling but I am determined to see it through.
?On your other issue Movicol, I find it very useful and gentle and you can take one sachet or more. It is very natural and doesn't make you sick. That unfortunately is withdrawl.
Good luck

It's called titration and can be used up or down. A lot of anti-depressants start at a lower dose and titrate up to a higher one. Getting off opioids is the reverse where you titrate down by gradually decreasing the dose. Always good to have a doc manage that because each drug has a different half life. Do it wrong and you get a "roller coaster" effect...not good.
Also, Tramadol (Ultram), a very mild opioid, is often used as a transitional drug between things like oxy- and hydro-codone and OTC pain relievers. Ask the doc about it...could help a lot getting you off the oxy.
