Trying to come off Sertraline

Hello,

I've been on Sertraline for 6 months and am trying to come off them. With my doctors advice I'm taking 50mg every other day.

Does anyone that has come off it know how to tell if your having side affects or replapsing? I'm starting to feel anxious and tearful again and have no interest in doing anything or socialising. I really wanted to try and come off them but not sure I'm ready after all. I'm also having similar side affects as when I started setraline eg. teeth grinding, horrible dreams.

Any advice from someone whose been there and done it?

Thanks for reading this. x

Hi I was on sertraline for about 4 years and was gradually weaned off. It took 2 months of reducing the dosage before I was off it completely. Having been ok for about 8 months all the old symptons started to return -anxiety and panic attacks so I have now gone back on 50mg. I tried really hard to manage without but the symptons are far worse than being on medication. Good luck and take it very slowly.

I've been on Sertraline before, for 2 yrs, I spent 6 months coming off them as I wanted to do it really gradually, taking 50 mg every other day then the dr said halve them and take 25 mg every day then every other day. It worked, BUT, I've had some really bad times for the 2 months I've been off them so am back on them again. My dr from a yr ago said she was happy for me to be on 50 mg as a maintenance dose, that some people take them for donkeys years.

Sertraline have been great for me, no side effects, keep me stable, stop me from crying 24/7 and help the week before my period, still get irritable but the symptoms are less severe.

Hope this helps, they do no harm in my opinion, I've been lucky I guess, after reading other people's experiences, they seem to suit me and keep me on an even keel.

hi just been reading through you post's I have been on Sertraline for a year now and have had wonderful results. However It seems to be when people try to come off Sertraline they tend to get the same old symptoms back. Personally I would hate to come off them and rather use the medication as a maintance measure to prevent symptoms coming back as Im terrified off being ill again. However you may not of been quite well enough to start reducing the dose, would you not consider staying on them for mantainance reasons and staying well. Hope all goes well for you . I do admire people for trying to come off as sometimes side effects can be as bad as what they are when you first go on the medication. It really makes me wonder It seems to me the imbalance in the brain seems to need constant monitoring and checking by this medication. Lucky
