Trying to come off Zopiclone

Posted , 5 users are following.

Need some advice. Been on Zopiclone for about 10 years only take1/4 of a 7.5 mg tablet a night but desperatly trying to wean off them. Been trying to cut out doses 2 or 3 nights a week but withdrawal is awful only been trying about 6 weeks. Lots of sites recommend switching to diazepam as apparently easier to wean off than zopiclone. Saw my gp but wouldn't prescribe diazepam  I spoke to my local chemist who also advised against diazepam. The ashton method also advises diazepam. Has anyone tried it or managed to come off by only using zopiclone as lot of conflicting advice out there. If anyone has switched to diazepam did it work as don't want to become addicted to something else. Help needed !!

Hi well first of all good on you for wanting to get off this drug. I was taking a benzo for a neuro condition for many years but weaned off

it according to the ashton manual and feel better off it than on it.

I see that zoplicone is now only allowed to be prescribed for 1 to 2 days.

DIAZEPAM. Unsure why your dr refuses to rx this as a cross over to get off zoplicone but the dr may have good reasons for this. ALsi unsure why chemist advises against it. Personally I would not take diazepam as it does not suit me. I would suggest tapering according to ashton manual and see how it goes, some pple say it is a too fast taper and have to go slower.  I would not buy any drugs online as u have no means of knowing what they consist of, fake drugs and all that. Blazing benzos, beating benzos, are good forums too.

I did take diazepam once before only 1 packet and had no problems. Problems is zopiclone tablets so small can't cut them down any more so can't follow the Ashton method. Think they might come in lower dose so will have go back to gp see if I can try getting lower dose. Think diazepam recommended as much bigger tablets and available in 2mg so can be reduced more easily. Even contacted an addiction centre who also advised diazepam. Cutting out tablets a few days a week just awful don't sleep at all so not really working. Think well regulated on line sites OK, ones regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council with a little green logo and a cross are UK registered, not that you can get diazepam on line anyway! In limbo at moment as feeling awful been trying for 6 weeks and not improving!

I need order to follow the Ashton plan, you need to take diazepam to taper of.

go back to your Gp and ask him to put you on the Ashton plan in order to come of the zops.

he may not have heard of it, so go armed with the information and get him to google it. You cannot come of them successfully by just reducing the amount you take.

most GPS are fairly ignorant of this method but it is generally well known.

    good luck.

I'll try get another appointment with my gp see what he says. Very difficult when you get conflicting advice, he and the chemist both seem very anti diazepam, but patient forums all seem to think it is better option. Don't want to to come off zopiclone to end up addicted to something else. If anyone has swapped from zopiclone to diazepam would be very interested to know if it worked , and how easy it was to taper off the diazepam. Currently only taking the zopiclone 4 or 5 days a week clearly isn't working as get awful cravings some nights even though I'm taking very little. Was told they were non addictive when I first started them clearly wrong.

    Hi

I was dependant on zopiclone and when tried to withdraw had terrible symptoms and although o was so afraid I did swap to diazepam and then reduced at 5% per 7-10 days, still had withdrawal symptoms but because of longer half life it was easier than reducing from zopiclone which has very short half life. Took me five months to wean off, the last month I found help from a London website which was like a miracle cure and with their treatment I was able to wean off at 20% every four days without any terrible withdrawals here is the site http://Www.rectoryhealthcare.com

You will read my story under their testimony for sleeping tablets

    Good luck

Thanks for the info Georgina , I will go back to the gp and see if I can get diazepam. I suffer from mild anxiety and trying to come off the zopiclone has made it a lot worse. Have been trying not to take it some days but get virtually no sleep then. What dose diazepam did you start on and was your GP willing to give it to you? Mine seemed very resistant tried to put me on an anti depressant which really don't want. Awful that taking so little can get you addicted I've only every had a maximum of 4 packets a year

      Hi Georgina.

i have read all about Rectory Healthcare.

it all sounds very impressive but nowhere does it say how much they charge.

is it free or not.  It’s a shame, it ought to be available on the NHS.

I was addicted to 3.75 for 6 months. Couldn’t go a night without it and they were happy to prescribe. This drug is hell! Come off as soon as you can as I didn’t realise how far down the rabbit hole I was on it. I changed to Clonazepam and now don’t take anything for sleep. I take a mild anti depressant which has really helped me sleep and I will never ever take a Z again! Good luck 😊
