Trying to cut down to ween off - unsuccessful

Hi guys. I have been trying to cut down from 10mg to 5mg. Initially went straight to 5mg but after a couple of weeks felt awful and had dizzy spell forcing me to pull the car over. Thanks to one of you I tried to do alternate days 10mg and 5mg and it seemed to be working but now my stress levels at work have escalated and personal financial worries have come to a head. I'm feeling really bad. Should I go back to 10 mg again or should I see my GP before I do? Any help from you guys on here is welcome. The work stress is partly circumstantial and partly the result of bullying by my boss. She retires in a few weeks so following a grievance procedure is pointless but meanwhile she seems to be doing all in her power to make everyone's life a misery. We are hanging on in there but I am struggling on reduced citalopram.

I've cut down from 20mg-10mg-5mg and stayed on each dose for a few months at a time.  It might have been me that suggested taking the 10mg 5mg alternate days?

If you're feeling stress from work and other issues I'd personally go back to taking 10mg for the time being until you feel well enough again.  I've upped and reduce my dose without my doctor as I've known when I've needed to do it and it takes too long for an appointment anyway.

I sympathise with a bullying boss - I had exactly the same in my last job and left because of it.  Over the following 4 years, 5 people left after me under the same circumstances with 1 person taking the boss through a grievance policy ...... and lost - she was off work sick with nerves for around 6 months.    All our complaints fell on deaf ears at the place of business.  I had started to feel unwell too and it began to creep into my home life, so my husband just said 'leave'.  The last lady who left was finally asked if she'd take it further, but she was too traumatised to do so.  The boss retired this year.

Its disgusting that 1 person can behave in this way, but sadly they do.  Look up 'toxic personality' ...... interesting.

So yes, I'd increase your dose again and when all has settled and you're ready, reduce it as before.

Hope all goes well - and hope the witch gets her come-uppance one day.

    K xx

Thanks for that katecogs. Decisions are being made at work that affect all of us and not her as she will be gone but she has no regard whatsoever for anyone else's workload or stress - anything to make her life easy. Hard to understand as you would think people would bow out gracefully and quietly and not want to be involved in controversy in their final days but no - it must be about power and having it til the end. I think I will go back on 10mg daily until she has finally gone!

I was on Citalopram for about 5 yrs and tapered off slowly.  The first 2 wks were awful.  Had vertigo, nausea etc.  It's been 5 wks now with no antidepressants and am ok as far as depression however I'm short tempered, anxious, can't stay focused.  But I'm going to really try to stay off.  I've read that taking magnesium, vitamin Bs helps so I'm trying that.
