Trying to make music, always end up stressed and down

Hi all...

I've lately been trying to learn to produce music.  However I always end up feeling stressed and thinking whats the point, everything I do sounds terrible, do I really even enjoy this?  And then I start to feel down and bad because I am giving up on things or giving up on my dream.  This then causes me to question whether this really is my dream and if I'll ever find anything I really enjoy doing.

I was wondering if anyone has went through anything similar with their work/career/life and is it really worth the stress it causes?

Yes. I feel the same way. Even though I have a completely different job, I often wonder if it's really worth the effort to get up, get showered, get dressed etc. And then I wonder what the alternative would be and.... nothing.... I have no idea. I feel trapped in the "must pay your mortgage off" game. So I keep going to work.

But on the other hand I am now trying 100 different new things. Painting, pottery, yoga... and I've decided to start working on getting a yoga teacher diploma. I like doing it.... it's part time. I can easily do my other job and we'll see.... Maybe teaching yoga will be more rewarding (not in a financial sense). May I can do both. Maybe I will realize that my current job is actually really good and I am good at it if I stop the negative selftalk...

hi Ecler, when I was younger I was in a band and music was something that I loved and loved doing, so when we called it a day I decided to get into djing and put together a mobile disco.  I loved it but there were occasions when I'd turn up and there weren't many people or nobody would dance, and it didnt matter what I tried nothing would work so i would question myself and wonder if it was me etc.

The biggest question I always asked myself was is it worth turning something you love doing into a job with the stress that go with work?  My personal answer was no.  I still dj, but less nowadays as it remains my hobby, and music is my passion.  My work life is totally different.

I've no doubt you'll do whats right for you and good luck.

I write music have been in bands and do all my own stuff at home on the pc. I play all my instruments and sing. I get fed up from time to time. I hit a creative block as well. I'm my worst critic. One thing I know no matter what I do it is always my style. If it's dance metal or other styles it's always my style. Find your style and work on that. Listen to any band they sound like that band. Perhaps try working on others music. Ask singers musicians bands to come and do a track with you. It's easier to enjoy that as you will be less critical of it. Good luck

Ecler this is how I used to feel

    When mixing music

I think the problem is this your a perfectionist nothing other than perfect will

    Do am I right ?

I used to start recording , mix some music

Then find myself going back to the start

Again & again because I wanted it right

I got stressed aswell as I was too hard on myself I knew I could and also

Knew what I wanted to do it was just putting it together and hey presto

I would say try not to be too hard on yourself and don't compare yourself

With other music producers just take your time and let that beat flow I'm pretty sure

Within time I'll be uploading your new tune

Let me know more about your music

    Background I'm really interested

    Regards daz
