Trying to taper of codeine

Hi All, im a long term user of codeine and found myself taking up to 20 pills a day at times 30mg tablets. I cannot go cold turkey as full time work, family etc and just cant bear the thoughts of withdrawal symptoms, so far in a matter of weeks i have came down to the prescribe 8 per day and i not suffering at all which in an instant has shown me that i clearly did not need to be taking 20 tablets in a day as 8 has the same effect. now its time to cust this back even further. I was a big drinker also and i have managed to cut this down to just a few beers one night a week. This all came about almost like a switch going off in my head and i have just found a determanation from somewhere that i never new existed. i hope this continues as i want to be of these for the summer. and to be able get up early and love the long summer days, instead of lying in bed till 11 am and then feeling tired all day, i will keep you posted in this but so far so good!

Hi Neil, Well done you , a big pat on the back . My gp said to drop 1 tablet per week , but I did cold turkey , been off about a month now so all good . Managing pain with cbd oil . I hated being reliant on codeine but it was causing migraines and muscle cramps for me.
You can beat this, Good luck and keep us posted

First off well done for cutting back, it’s definetly a challenge, I’m on day 23 of CT, I was fully over the withdrawls with in a week and a half. I was taking between 30-40 a day I started to cut back just before Christmas and got done to 20 but with the laws here in OZ that changed that u can no longer buy Codeine over the counter I knew I had no choice but to give them up which I wanted to do anyway so this helped heaps. Only thing I’m still struggling with is lack of the energy it’s coming back slowly which is great but for me I want it back like yesterday! I’m majorly impatient! Keep tampering down even if it’s only buy half a tablet each dose, it does make a difference. Keep staying strong stick to your guns and u will achieve your goals! I feel 100% better being off these horrid things! Keep me posted on your progress!

Hi guys, well done to both of you! I am in Australia also and am also tapering off these horrid things.
Nurofen plus to be exact. I have tapered down from 2-3 packs a day to 9 tabs it is today. I stocked up before 1st feb in order to do my taper as I had planned. It is going ok I can’t believe how AWAKE I feel lol. I do feel slight withdrawals it’s really bad the last say 6 hours of the day before I’m due to take my next dose, which is always 1 tab less than the dose before. I find music helps a lot, anything that keeps you busy helps. I take my hat off to anyone who stops cold turkey, sorry for going on, it’s nice to know I’m not alone, I wish you both all the luck on the world, here’s to a clean healthy future for all of us 😊

Never be sorry! I find the more I share and read the better I feel, knowing I’m not the only one out there going through it all!! Your doing great! It is hard and it is a struggle but you will get there! Your doing well to get down to what you are from what you were so well done and be proud of the achievement you have made, even the smallest step is a big step in the right direction!! So keep going and stay positive! I’ve found grabbing some woman’s multivitamins and taking a double dose a day is working wonders!! I’ve gone back to yoga as a form of relaxation and exercise and it’s been mentally fantastic for me! Do what ever you have to to keep your mind and body active u will feel 100% better for it!! Keep me updated on your progress love hearing about everyone’s achievements! Xo
