Tumor on Pituitary and PCOS

So, i got the mother of all bombs dropped on me at my last visit. Apparently I have high prolactin levels which lead the dr to believe I have a tumor (she is quite convinced) Is this a strong possibility or over diagnosed? (She wants me to have mri. She thinks it is what triggered my pcos) Has anyone else had this bomb dropped on them? (also my liver is showing up bad as well. No i don't drink and am very healthy eater but was born with severe Jaundice. (Also did anyone else have an mri what can i expect?)

Thank you that does help. I just got the MRI. The specialist that performed it said. "This is exactly what caused your symptoms!" With full confidence, which leads me to believe she did find said tumor. I do not know of it is benign or not. Just out of curiousity would you opt for surgery on a benign tumor or medicine? I have heard there are drugs that shrink it and make it stop producing prolactin (mine is a bit on the extreme side) but I don't know enough about the risks to decide which would be best. I found out the full results Monday and really could use any advise you have. Thank you again.

Thank you, that really does help. I will ask that she does refer me. I really hope I get the same happy ending as you. Did you have any metabolic issues stemming from your condition? and How long have you suffered from the condition before it was diagnosed? I have been suffering from mine all my life. I am 27.

      Hi ZoeyRudy

I am 28 years old female unmarried. Same happened with me my prolactine was elevated. It was 112 and unexplained discharged from breast. Due to elevates prolactine was told for MRI which furthr confirmed the tumor. That time I was like totally lost gone but visit many endo plus neuro and also visit the best endocrinologist of my country and after reading researching in dept from all sources I becme calm and relaxed that it is so common and treatable, best thing is in almost 99% cases these r non-cancerous. So you also be relaxed. There ia nothing to worry about. Its very much easy to be treated. I am myself daignosed with microadenoma i.e tumors in my pituatry grand, infact i have 2. Both tumors are harmone secreting/producing tumors. But r micro size so surgery is not necessary, treating it with medicines which wil bring harmones back to normal and also shrink the size of tumor. Lets see how iam responding to medicines, will do all test again after a month and mri after 3 months. I am positive

Surgery depends on its nature, size, age and loaction. If you r young, size of tumor is micro less than 10mm, and not near sensitive area then surgery is not recommended and vice versa. Its our endo who will decide. Decision will be in ur hand if u r marreid and done with kids and instead of taking long time medicines u can get rid of the tumor thru surgery that also require medicine post surgery in some cases.

Always remmember dont think it is only prolactine. Tumor may produce one or more harmones. There are total 6 harmones produced by pituitary gland. You need to check all and start treatment. Initially it was daignsd that mine are producing prolactine. Sometimes endo do not check other harmones. Like i do lot of research so I already studies about gh harmones that its symptoms r enalargment of hands legs and bones. Without knowing about it I might have not noticed it but thank GOD I noticed this little enlargement in bones or bone thickness and pointed out to my endocrinologist he then gave me test for all other harmones too to check and concluded that mine r producing 2 harmones, prolactine and growth harmones and started medicines for both.

If ur tumor size is not macro and not affecting ur vision. Then no nees of surgery. Consult a good endocrinologist. Also keep researching on the said topic.

Just relax, dont take it as a bomb, we all r with u. Take care.

      Best wishes
