Turmeric or not

i suffer with GcA and PMR and take steroids and methotrexate. I have read that turmeric is good for my condition. Wondered if any of you have used it!

It depends what other medication you are taking to some extent.
There are several on the forums who used turmeric in cooking and felt it helped them, as did garlic as well. However, that was just in cooking. There are also people who found using turmeric capsules as a supplement caused them stomach upsets as it increases the production of stomach acid.
If you are on anticoagulant therapy for any reason you shouldn't take the capsules as it can contribute to bleeding. The same applies with NSAIDs. There are other medications with interactions - including PPIs and ranitidine for stomach acid which many people on pred are given. Pred itself can cause gastric irritation which is why we are often given PPIs.
It is probably something to try and see if it helps as long as you are not on anything contraindicative.

I haven't tried turmeric. However, I do make tea from the related root, ginger, and feel it helps me.

Hi Anne, yes turmeric with black pepper is one of the supplements that I take twice a day. I have had no adverse effects from turmeric. Good luck! 🙂
