i need to have some type of procedure done.. i have to pee every couple of hours ... day and night ... my god it's frustrating ..
however . my burning question (no pun intened) to all who've had some type of procedure done is:
Any problems with the dreaded ED ?
do you have a normal (each is different) sex life again .. i've read stories about nerve damage from inexperienced docs. ..or ones that aren't careful enough ..any and all comments welome !!

I had the turp and I wish I never had it done as I just have no enjoyable climax. I will warn everybody too postpone it as much as possible as my life is a disaster after the TURP and I was one of the happiest people in the world. And after its done they will give you viagra and testosterone if you tell them that you dont have an enjoyable climax and to be honest ive never had a good climax after the TURP. My urologist told me to get another urologist but he was the one who told me before the TURP that ive got nothing to worry about as the sex and everything will be the same. Now that I tell him its not the same he dont want me to see him again but he was the one lying to me.

I am 100% in agreement with you. I wish I never had the TURP operation as my marriage has been adversely effected with the sexual problems you have identified. If I had known about this website 18 months ago I would have been better informed to make the right decision. All the very best. Peter

I had a Turp on November the 21st 2014 and I have no problems at all, no ED & no retro. I guess like many hundreds of others I have been lucky.
kind regards

Pros and cons
The main advantage of having a TURP is that it is effective in relieving the symptoms of prostate enlargement and improving quality of life.
In one survey, around 9 out of 10 men said they were happy they had chosen to have the surgery.
A common disadvantage is that men lose the ability to ejaculate semen out of their penis during sex or masturbation, although they still have the physical pleasure associated with ejaculation (the climax). This is known as retrograde ejaculation and can occur in as many as 9 out of 10 cases.

All I want to do is to warn the so called 1 out of ten to avoid such a disaster from happening because if I knew that I will never enjoy a good climax the way I did before the operation then I would never have done the TURP. Think about it . No good sex after 49 and if my urologist tryed something elsebefore the TURP then I might have at least a few extra years of good sex.

Nearly 2 years ago I told my GP that I get up 2-4 times to pee and can't sleep through the night and could not pee on the plane even after 5 hours and with a full bladder. He examined me and said I have an enlarged prostate and gave me pills (fenestiride and Tamsulosin). I took those pills for 18 months. I went back to my GP and said there is no improvement and he referred me to a urologist. I had sone tests done on my bladder pee volume and check if empty with a scan and a scan on size of prostate. The specialist suggested the problem is the size of the urethra pipe gets smaller due to build up just like water pipes and the prostate was enlarged. He said the TURP operation would clean up the urethra pipe and sample of the prostate would be taken for biopsy and check for cancer. I was told about the RE and sex problems that effected a small number of patients who have the operation. I decided to go ahead with the hope of improving the duration of peeing at night and on the plane and also to check for cancer. After the TURP it was confirmed that my prostate did not have cancer but the peeing at night continued and I haven't as yet flown since the operation. The sex problem is greater than I anticipated and echo wally5's experiences. The main concern is the percentage or RE and semen production after the TURP operation. I believe it is a very high % and very common. An NHS report by British Assoc. of urological surgeons on TURP stated greater than 1 in 10 for poor erections (impotence in approx 14%),and no semen is produced after an orgasm in approx.75%. This figures are rather disturbing and for me the fact that I still get up in the night to pee 2-4 times there has been little improvement from having the operation. Regards Peter

After the operation is done and Ive realised thet I will never ever enjoy a good climax in my life again then Ive also realisd that there is nothing that I can so exept to warn other people about it. Ive heared a urologist on a TV program the other day about prostate procedures and he said that it is important that patients should be fully informed.
