If you're contemplating TURP, then look in to HOLEP if its avaialable where you live.

GL is better than regular TURP, but bipolar TURP is better than GL, imho.
Be aware that they all have very high risk of retro ejaculation.

Hi hank1953,
Why you said: bipolar TURP is better than GL.
Please can you give me more detail.
Thanks

Bipolar Turp is better in shorter hospital stay and catherization time. Also, more successes were reported on this forum. Otherwise, GL is fine.

Both are incorrect IMO. There is no hospital stay with Greenlight and typically little or no catheterization with greenlight.

Two friends of mine who had GL in London early in the morning were out of hospital the same day. One went back the next morning to have his catheter removed. He then crossed London by Tube and got train for 650 mile journey to the North of Scotland. The other was out by lunchtime without a catheter and back to his hotel for a rather uncomfortable night and back to the hospital for flow and retention checks the next morning. Then went shopping with his wife before out to the airport for short flight to the North of England.
Each done at different hospitals by top urologists, one at a private hospital the other NHS.
My GL was not done until afternoon and I was kept in overnight and catheter removed in the morning. I had expected to be home that day but as I was retaining and one of their early patients they were cautious and kept me another night until I was voiding better as I also had a train journey home.

I based the information on trial data results comparing GL and TURP. GL typically has less hospital stay than mono TURP but more than bipolar TURP. Your friends may be lucky, like you.

But as unkle said, hoLEP is a much better choice.

What is the difference between hoLEP and green light?

The hospital who did my GL eventually went over to HoLep I think mainly because it can collects tissue for a histology report.
My friend who was out the same day without a catheter (In 2004/2005) went back to see the same Uro a couple of years ago as his flow was decreasing and he still does GL.
