Two alternating heart rates

Posted , 3 users are following.

ECG showed alternating periods of 60 bmp and 80 bpm, each lasting about 5 to 7 seconds. When switching between the two heart rates there were slightly longer gaps. Any plausible explanations welcome.

That is odd, to say its 60 to 80 bpm, but at the same time beating 5 to 7 seconds. Unless you made a mistake. In any event its good to work on heart rate by working out with cardio exercises. The only problem is the heart begins to return to the way it worked before the exercising if you do not maintain the exercise.

Not 60 to 80 bpm. It switched between 60 bpm and 80 bpm every several seconds. When severe the switching occurred perhaps every 3 seconds. When it was getting better the switching occurred perhaps every 10 seconds. Back to normal, after say 24 hours, it was a regular 60 bpm. During each period (of 3 to 10 seconds) the pulse rate was quite regular, either 60 or 80 bpm. A doctor told me that there were multiple groups of Sinus Node pacemaker cells and if one group stopped, another nearby group would take over. This makes sense to me as the transition from 60 to 80, or back again, involved a longer than normal gap or twiddle as detected at the wrist. Do different groups of pacemaker cells receive feedback signals from different pressure sensors or via different pathways so they determine the end of the previous pulse at different times so each group of pacemaker cells generate different bpm speeds. All above rather academic now as stuck at abnormally high 80 bpm for last 3 months!

Tried pulmonary vein isolation. No benefit (and possibly caused a new symptom of breathlessness) . Still dual heart rates, switching between two speeds every 3 to 10 seconds. Not now specific to exactly 60 or 80 bpm, but distinct different speeds, e.g 70 and 90bpm. Any ideas what to try to fix or why in the early stages it would sometimes settle back to the lower speed, only after a day or two.
