Two months and still burning pain with shingles

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have posted a couple times about my condition but here I go again .  I have a severe case on one side from back stomach groin and thigh. It has been two months now and still have burning pain on and off most everyday. At times feels like my pelvic area is hard and swollen. My thigh feels numb and frozen but also burning pain. I have had lots of rest and taking a multiple vitamin plus 500 mg vitamin  C. 2000 bit D and Vitamin B12. thinking this would help to speed up my immune system. I take xStrength Tylonal to help with the discomfort. Has anyone else had it this long and if so how long did it take to recover. I do short walks every day and sometimes have to press on my leg to stop the discomfort in my thigh and groin. I can't just stay sitting but can't do too much without resting.

I have had recurring shingles for 3 years. I started a very restrictive diet in January and I can truly say I am on my way to recovery! You are beginning on the right track with your supplements. I can private message you if you would like to know more.

I would be interested in more info on diet. I'm not sure how you can inbox me. I heard we can't use email.

Oh shoot. This site use to have a little envelope in the top right corner. It's not there since they reformatted the page. I'll try and give you the basics:

You can do a cleanse for 28 days of solely raw fruit and veggies. I only made it 10 days, then switched over to a diet that will take longer to completely eliminate the virus (one can only hope). So, the foods you have to have in your diet every day. Mangoes, pears, asparagus, wild blueberries, papayas, coconut, red apples, bananas, artichokes, avocado, red and green leafy lettuce, green beans, sweet potato, spinach. Eat a lot of these foods daily.

The foods you CANNOT consume: corn, soy, canola oil, processed beet sugar, eggs, dairy, pork, farmed fish, gluten, msg, natural flavoring, artificial flavors, artificial sweetners, citric acid,

And avoid the amino acid L-carnitine and whey protein at all costs.

I know this sounds crazy, but I have been doing it for 2 months and I have not felt this good in 3 years. I have shingles symptoms every month. I have been free of these symptoms 2 weeks after I started this. You should do the cleanse for as long as you can, then just start adding some cooked food. It is hard and boring, but effective so far.

Drink organic teas: lemon balm, raspberry leaf, nettle leaf all day long.

Supplements are a whole other story. I could tell you the book, if I could on you.

I am eating banana apple wild blueberries every day. We have fresh Atlantic codfish while we are here in  NL. I use olive oil and balsamic vinegar on our greens. So other than dairy and pork   I think I could do this. Can you have beef and chicken??

Not at first, but he says you can, in time, have organic chicken and wild salmon

Hi, Sheila,I am so sorry to hear you still have this pain 2 months. You didn't if you took the antiviral drug that shortens shingles. I haven't tried this yet, but have heard much about it. Try using olive leaf extract. If you can buy it from a healthfood store, even better. It is supposed to kill the virus. Also, take vitamin D3,50,0000 IU a day with vitamin K2Mk7 500 mg. together. It sounds to me as if you have post neuralgia pain. I would suggest the next step, if the vitamins don't work(give it awhile) is to go to a neurologist. They are trained to treat nerve pain. They may want to put you on Gabapentin for pain. I wish you the best.

The strange thing  I did take the antiviral drug. It was three days after rash first appeared as I was misdiagnosed by the first doctor. They say it should be taken within 72 hours so I was borderline one way or another. I can take the x bit d right away but will have to wait to try the other when I can get to a health food store . The rash is still on my body but it has been dried up for weeks. So I didn't know if that has to go first before the pain. The pain isn't as bad as it was in the beginning. Just a burning pain that comes and goes. More uncomfortable when I walk as it gets me in my groin and hip and thigh. I am speaking positive to myself and this too shall pass.  Thanks and I will do a more thorough check on the diet.

Look up what foods are suggested when you have shingles. I know nuts, are supposedly not good when you have shingles. Sounds as if you eat a healthy diet, But I would still add olive leaf extract. It is supposed to kill the virus, as the rest of it, just keep it at bay. I am grateful I got the shingles vac 4 years ago and caught it early, so after a week, most of the rash is healed and have some residual pain.I got your post delivered to my email. I think if you set up your email acct:, they will forward your post. Take care.

    Sheila,

Sorry for the delay in responding. Some individuals have Post Herpetic Neuropathy PHN for months or years after the initial onset of the pain and rash. I know you took the antiviral for the full course, and are following the high lysine low arginine diet.

Some individuals find these remedies helpful.

Cold compresses or ice packs applied to the affected area.

Solarcaine with Aloe helps as it contains Lidocaine, which numbs the nerve endings.

More aggressive solutions are prescription medications that calm the neuralgia you are experiencing.

These include Neurontin, Lyrica, Cymbalta and Venlafaxine. These medications need to be titrated up before they start working.

I am so sorry you are still experiencing the pain from this dreadful disease.

I hope these suggestions are helpful.

    Best wishes

    Merry Juliana
