Two weeks post-op

Posted , 9 users are following.

Just had my staples removed, feels so much better now.  Wound still leaking a tiny bit, but almost stopped, and the nurses don't seem concerned.

Had a couple of outings this week, used a shopping trolley to get me around Tescos for about 30 mins - felt good as the floor is dead flat.

Next day tried a walk around town for about an hour - so much harder on uneven surfaces.

The hardest bit for me at the moment is sleeping flat on my back.

    hi Rocketman

Yes sleeping on your back is tough - uncomfortable for many of us.

Take it easy - don't overdo the walking. An hour sounds quite a lot at 2 weeks post op.

Well done for finding this website and forum. The best support you could possibly have

Thanks for that - I still have to wear my TEDs .... arrrrgh

I was so glad to get off the Mprphine/Tramadol - I hated the stuff, kept getting withdrawal symptoms when the next dose was imminent.

Totally off all meds now except for the blood thinners.

      Thanks again.

      Hi Graham

Well done for coming off the pain meds. I was in blissful ignorance about Tramadol and was totally unprepared for how dreadful I would  feel when the next dose was due and even more so when I eventually stopped taking them even after a relatively short time.

I have mine out on Friday, day 14. Interesting to compare notes, I still have the original dressing on, looks like a little leakage but I think best left alone as long as possible. Dread going to bed but there again sitting in my orthopaedic chair isn't much fun either. Still no pain no gain. Tony

Just remember what everyone says, we are all different, have different experiences, and heal at different rates.

You will get better, just give it time.

Hi guys. I remember the feelings you are describing especially about dreading going to bed. I'm 13 weeks post op and can say it will get better but be kind to yourselves and keep doing exercises and moving about. Afternoon naps will help. I tried a tens machine which was good for discomfort in the night. Wishing you all well 😄

    Dear Graham,

Great feeling when the staples are removed, right ? SOmetimes there is a little seeping through  little puncture marks ... do you still have some dressing on it ?

I had until all the little holes were closed -

Your body is healing from major surgery and when you feel good it is easy to overdo things - like walking too long - smile

please make sure that you walk properly, okay ? I didn't - had 2 THR surgeries and only now start to learn how to walk ....(at 9 weeks post-op of 2nd THR)

    You are doing good !!!

    big warm hug

      Thanks Renee,

Yes, I still have a dressing, but at least the leg is free of all that metalwork that was pulling.

You are so right, it is easy to overdo it in the excitement of walking pain free again.

      Hugs.

      Lucite,

Thanks, I am very happy with my progress so far.

looking at the excellent information here, you get an idea of the various problems and speeds of recovery peoplr have.

The physio even got me to walk a few steps down a corridor without my sticks, not painful, but it felt so weird, and gave me a real boost that I could do it.

Good luck with your new bionic hip.

      Graham
