Two years post cholecystectomy nausea worse and pain in back

Posted , 5 users are following.

i had an uneventful removal two years ago and expected all would settle down.  In fact stomach has never been the same since.  I also have ibs but the main concern is the waking up nausea and the same between shoulder blades pain is back which was there pre op.

I also have a hiatus hernia.  Dr has just said use buccastem for nausea but its happening almost every second day now and i dont know why.  I only drink water, eat blandly, chicken, rice, mashed potato etc. Could I have an ulcer, or h pylori giving this nausea and pain.  Have tried gaviscon but to no avail. I only tolerate cereal earlier in day then can eat meal by 4pm. Maybe there is some post gallbladdermed which could help, any suggesrions?

    Hi

I had said me symptoms 3 years after op .

Doctor sent me for a scan of organs liver etc , came back my liver was coarse my gp was like your blood tests show no liver disease ?. But this shows a fatty liver .. then sent for a fibroendoma scan which showed mild fibrosis..

so ive cut fat and sugar out of my diet and within weeks my nausea back pain etc settled ..inflamed liver ?

Apparently gallstones and liver disease go hand in hand ...

i am awaiting my appointment with specialist to find out more ..

i was also on omeprazole when I came off it for an endoscopy my pain improved if u read the side effects etc it warns not to take if you have liver disease ..

might be worth asking for a scan of your liver as blood tests don’t always show it up

    yours

Thanks, very interesting information for me.

i had ultrasound befor gb came out and it showed up some fatty liver, however when i asked GP for liver enzyme test she said it came back within range?  Do these people really know what they are doing with gallbladder patients?  Makes me wonder.  I expect her first gambit will be endoscopy then colonoscopy which people on this site say come back with negatives.

i had omeprazole for two weeks prescribed by gb surgeon, felt yucky on it and didnt get new prescription.

i have altered by diet for months now, no fat, bland food etc. But still the nausea.

was your liver scan an ultrasound or more complicated than that.  I am not sure i want a barrage of invasive testing.

      Hi

ultrasound showed up fatty liver then

fibroscan which is very similar to ultrasound sends pulse waves to detect scaring , both quick and easy ..

i have hiatus hernia too putting bricks  under the head of my bed has stopped me waking with waves of nausea in the night and the gastritus.. as it stops your stomach acid rolling up . In my case it felt like my stomach rolled up weird stomach contraction ..the bricks have worked ..yes endoscopy good idea ..if You google fatty liver symptoms may find it interesting ..

and that their my dear is a fact !!

you know I just sent my mrs to her go last week to request a fibre scan as she was diagnosed with mild fatty liver by my private ultrasonographer and her gap looked at her like she was mad ,

and said to her his words, what on Earth are you talking about theirs no such thing as a fibre scan I’ve never heard such rubbish !!!

    Ann.

    hi bless you dear.

i think you should give oxbile a go personally I dont see what you have to lose !!

give it a try and if no help just stop !

go onto google and do some good research first obviously!!

and find the best ox bile you can try and some digestive enzymes, the best money can buy would be my route.

not saying it’s a cure ,however I’m doing a lot of research on it myself at the moment as I also had mine removed

12 weeks ago this Thursday and I’ve not been the same since either, but mine was full of puss and gangrenous and I had one big sucker of a stone stuck blocking the gallbladder neck the cystic duct for 3 years.

and I’m not doing great ,seems to change from day to day for me.

and the nhs lol I give up with them ,their just referred to by myself as the death squad now.

hope things improve for you and merry Christmas you lovely person.

I think that we are never the same again but you do settle down to some sort of regularity eventually. For the nausea have you tired a weak , warm (not hot) drink of ginger and not from concentrates apple juice, particular in the morning. You can buy the ginger frozen in cubes from the supermarket, certainly in morrisons 85p for lots. You only need about a third of a cube for each drink. Apparently the ginger settles the stomach and the fresh apple juice softens the liver. Don't know if thats true but it seems to help. I can now 4 years after a bit of complicated removal eat almost anything except very processed food. Or not big amounts of anything (particular things I like , cheese and chocolate)! I have to say its taken the 4 years though. the first year I thought it was awful but very gradually got better. I find now that strangely if I go out in the cold my liver feels as if it tenses up and spasms a bit. Needless to say gp says no won't be that(?) I hope you improve in time.

      Thank you for your reply.

i will look in morrisons for the ginger.  I am so fed up with this nausea and/or diarrhoea days now that i feel i want to just give up.  Dr is treating me for anxiety but says its not really depression.  I feel like it is as i cant live a normal life round this.

every mkrning i wake to either nausea, growling bowel, low mood, a juddering feeling in my whole body.  I am just so sick of it as i had hoped the removal would stop my nausea which i had prior to surgery.

i am now at the stage i dont want to go far and see people much, happy to talk on phone and text.

they have run no tests on me, just keep saying its ibs and anxiety but im sure that cant be causing the nausea.

i will have difficulty in drinking tea as i have only been able to drink water for the last two years and smells,of food turn my stomach.

its awful that srs dont recognise this and just let people suffer.

Tell your doctor You might not be anxious if you felt well!:-) don't think the doctors have the time for us unless it straight forward things. I think you have to look after yourself which is tricky when we don't have the doctors advice to go on. I tried milk thistle and artichoke tablets as it works for some, gave me bad pain in the liver area doctor said it won't help but it shouldn't hurt (well it did!). A lady on here said be careful what you try if your body already complaining don't make it work harder. Im trying to think what I ate in the early days. Baby food (because its bland and no additives) particularly apple puddings apparently the liver loves apple something to do with the malic acid in them(I'll leave you to research it yourself if you want) I've rambled on a bit. Hope you feel better soon, remember it can take a long time and whatever you eat or drink , don't smell it or look at it :-)
